The Washington Redskins have signed undrafted rookie CB Chase Minnifield. Minnifield is 6’0″, 185 pounds and he runs a 4.5 40. Minnifield is a solid all-around player as he makes nice plays on the ball in the passing game and he is a very aggressive run defender. Minnifield played in 12 games (all starts) for Virginia last year and he had 50 tackles, 8 passes broken up and 3 interceptions. He played in 48 games (27 starts) in his four years at Virginia and he had 151 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 13 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries. Minnifield’s father (Frank) was an outstanding CB for the Cleveland Browns. Minnifield dropped out of the draft completely due to microfracture surgery on his knee. I love this signing for the Redskins.

The Washington Redskins selected FB/RB Alfred Morris out of Florida Atlantic with the 173rd overall pick (6th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Morris is 5’10″, 222 pounds and he runs a 4.7 40. Morris is a solid all-around back as he is a good power runner, a willing blocker and a very solid special teams player. His only real downsides are his lack of speed and his ability as a pass receiver out of the backfield. Morris played in 12 games (all starts) at Florida Atlantic last year and he carried the ball 235 times for 1,186 yards (5.0 ypc) with 9 TD runs. He also caught 15 passes for 139 yards (9.3 avg) with 1 TD grab last year. Morris played in 47 games (36 starts) in his four years at Florida Atlantic and he carried the ball 732 times for 3,529 yards (4.8 ypc) with 27 TD runs. He also caught 30 passes for 300 yards (10.0 avg) with 4 TD grabs for the Owls. I never question head coach Mike Shanahan when he picks a RB late, as a lot of them turn into stars.

The Washington Redskins selected OLB Keenan Robinson out of Texas with the 119th overall pick (4th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Robinson is 6’3″, 240 pounds and he runs a 4.65 40, so he’s a pretty good athlete. Robinson can cover RBs out of the backfield and he’s a solid pass rusher when he can get around the end using his speed. But, he plays really soft for a player his size. It will be up to the Redskins’ coaches to light a fire under his butt. Robinson played in 13 games (all starts) for Texas last year and he had 106 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and he broke up 7 passes. He played in 51 games (39 starts) in his four years with the Longhorns and he had 317 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 14 passes broken up and 2 interceptions.
