The Washington Redskins release Josh Bidwell

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Redskins Headlines by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 12:21 am

The Redskins have released 35-year old punter Josh Bidwell.  Bidwell played in 4 games for the Redskins last year and he punted the ball 15 times for 625 yards (41.7 avg).  He pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 3 times (20%) and he didn’t have any touchbacks.  The Redskins have decided to go in a different direction at punter so they won’t miss Bidwell one bit going forward.

The Washington Redskins selected WR Leonard Hankerson in the 3rd round of the 2011 NFL Draft

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,The Draft Report by admin on Sunday 1 May 2011 at 6:17 pm

The Washington Redskins picked 22-year old WR Leonard Hankerson out of Miami (FL) with the 79th overall pick (3rd round) of the 2011 NFL Draft.  Hankerson is 6’1″, 205 pounds and he runs a 4.5 40.  Hankerson is not a speed burned but he makes a lot of eye popping catches.  He played in 13 games (11 starts) for Miami (FL) last year and he caught 72 passes for 1,156 yards (16.1 avg) with 13 TD grabs.  Hankerson played in 41 games (27 starts) in his four years with the Hurricanes and he caught 134 passes for 2,160 yards (16.1 avg) with 22 TD grabs.  This was another good pick for the Redskins, as Hankerson will fill a need for them.

The Washington Redskins pick Jarvis Jenkins in the 2nd round of the 2011 NFL Draft

The Washington Redskins picked 23-year old DT Jarvis Jenkins out of USC with the 41st overall pick (2nd round) of the 2011 NFL Draft.  Jenkins fills a huge need for the Redskins on the interior of the D-Line.  He is 6’3″, 309 pounds, so he has the size required to man the middle of the D.  The Redskins need to work with Jenkins on staying low as that seems to be one of his only problems as a player.  Jenkins played in 12 games (all starts) for USC last year and he had 39 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 batted down ball and he forced 1 fumble.  He played in 48 games (37 starts) in his four years with the Trojans and he had 152 tackles, 30 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 1 batted down ball and he forced 1 fumble.  This was a good pick for the Redskins who really needed help on the interior of the D.

The Washington Redskins trade down and then pick DE Ryan Kerrigan in the first round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,The Draft Report by admin on Friday 29 April 2011 at 2:55 pm

The Washington Redskins decided to trade down from the 10th spot in the draft with the Jacksonville Jaguars (they picked QB Blaine Gabbert out of Missouri).  The Redskins got the #16 overall pick (1st round) and the #49 overall pick (2nd round) in the deal.  The Redskins then took 23-year old DE Ryan Kerrigan out of Purdue.  Kerrigan is 6’3″, 255 pounds and he runs a 4.8 40.  It will be interesting to see if the Redskins leave him at DE or try to convert him to OLB.  Kerrigan played in 12 games (all starts) for Purdue last year and he had 70 tackles, 26 tackles for a loss, 12.5 sacks, batted down 1 pass, forced 5 fumbles and he recovered 2 fumbles.  Kerrigan played in 48 games (35 starts) in his four years with the Boilermakers and he had 210 tackles, 57 tackles for a loss, 33.5 sacks, batted down 7 passes, forced 14 fumbles and he recovered 2 fumbles.  The Redskins needed pass rushing help, so I like this pick for them.  I also liked the deal as the Redskins picked up a much needed extra second round pick.

The Washington Redskins have signed O.J. Atogwe

The Washington Redskins have signed 29-year old safety Oshiomogho (O.J.) Atogwe to a 5-year, $26 million dollar deal.  Atogwe played in 16 games for the Rams last season and he had 73 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 tackles for a loss, 9 passes defensed, 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles.  He has now played in 88 games in his first six years in the NFL and he has 393 tackles, 42 passes defensed, 5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles and 22 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  O.J. Atogwe gives the Redskins a big time playmaker at the back end of the defense.  I just love this signing for the Skins.

The Washington Redskins suspend Albert Haynesworth for the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Tuesday 7 December 2010 at 9:33 pm

The Washington Redskins have suspended 29-year old DT Albert Haynesworth for the rest of the season due to conduct detrimental to the team.  Haynesworth played in 8 games for the Redskins this year and he had 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 20 games in his first two years with the Redskins and he has 53 tackles, 6 passes defensed and 6.5 sacks.  The Redskins have suspeneded Haynesworth without pay which he will appeal but his time is likely done with the Redskins.

The Washington Redskins sign Donovan McNabb to a contract extension

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Tuesday 16 November 2010 at 12:59 pm

The Redskins signed 33-year old QB Donovan McNabb to a 5-year, $78 million dollar contract extension yesterday.  Like all contracts in the NFL it likely isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.  If the Redskins decide to release McNabb in the off-season they will only owe McNabb $3.75 million bucks.  It looks to me like that is the only money McNabb will see out of this contract.  He has played in 9 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has completed 176 of 308 passes (57.1%) for 2,266 yards with 9 TD passes and 11 INTs (79.1 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 24 times for 135 yards (5.6 ypc) this year.  McNabb has had a outstanding NFL career but it appears to me that he’s on the downside of it.  I don’t see the Redskins keeping him on as the starting QB in 2011.

The Washington Redskins sign Chad Simpson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Tuesday 21 September 2010 at 10:47 pm

The Redskins have signed 25-year old RB/KR Chad Simpson.  Simpson played in 14 games for the Colts last year and he carried the ball 15 times for 102 yards (6.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 3 passes for 1 yard (0.3 avg).  Simpson also returned 38 kickoffs for 898 yards (23.6 avg) last year for the Colts.  Simpson has now played in 25 games in parts of two years in the NFL in which he has carried the ball 30 times for 147 yards (4.9 ypc) with 3 TD carries and he has caught 6 passes for 31 yards (5.2 avg).  Simpson has also returned 53 kickoffs for 1,242 yards (23.4 avg) with 1 TD return in his NFL career.  This was a good signing for the Redskins as Simpson can provide depth in the backfield while helping out on special teams.

The Washington Redskins release Larry Johnson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Redskins Headlines by admin on Tuesday 21 September 2010 at 10:43 pm

The Redskins have released 30-year old RB Larry Johnson.  Johnson played in the Redskins first two games in which he carried the ball 5 times for 2 yards (0.4 ypc).  24-year old undrafted rookie RB Keiland Williams will move up the depth chart and be Clinton Portis’ top backup for the time being.  Williams hasn’t carried the ball yet this year for the Redskins but he has caught 4 passes for 15 yards (3.8 avg).

The Washington Redskins trade Justin Tryon to the Colts

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,Trades by admin on Sunday 5 September 2010 at 5:17 pm

The Redskins have traded 26-year old cornerback Justin Tryon to the Colts.  What the Redskins got back has not been made public as of this time but it’s probably not much as they were getting ready to release him when the trade went down.  Tryon played in 15 games (2 starts) for the Redskins last season and he had 27 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 1 sack and 1 interception.  Tryon played in 29 games (2 starts) in his two years with the Skins and he had 31 tackles, 1 sack, 3 passes defensed and 1 interception.
