The Washington Redskins fire Jim Zorn

The Redskins have fired head coach Jim Zorn.  Zorn led the Redskins to a 4-12 record this season and a last place finish in the NFC East.  The Redskins were hard to watch on offense as they only averaged 16.6 points per game wasting a solid defense that allowed 21.0 points per game.  The Redskins were also 0-6 in the division which certainly didn’t help things this season.  The Redskins were 12-20 (37.5%) under Zorn who deserved to get fired.

Rookie linebacker Brian Orakpo of the Washington Redskins is going to the Pro Bowl

23-year old outside linebacker Brian Orakpo is one of only three players (Jairus Byrd, Buffalo and Brian Cushing, Houston) to make the Pro Bowl in their rookie year this season.  He has played in 15 games for the Redskins this season and he has made 48 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, forced 1 fumble, defensed 2 passes and he has 11 sacks.  The sky is the limit for Orakpo who made a seamless transition from being a college DE to a pro outside linebacker.

The Redskins have placed strong safety Reed Doughty and OT Mike Williams on the Injured Reserve ending their seasons.  Doughty has a ankle injury and Williams a foot injury.  Doughty played in 15 games for the Redskins this season and he made 91 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, defensed 3 passes and he had 1 interception.  Mike Williams played in 8 games (all starts) for the Redskins this season.  They will miss both of these guys against the Chargers on Sunday.

The Washington Redskins release Scott Suisham

The Redskins have released 27-year old kicker Scott Suisham in kind of a knee jerk reaction to his missed game winning field goal last week against the Saints.  Suisham played in 12 games for the Redskins this season and he connected on 18 of 21 field goals  (85.7%) and 20 of 21 extra points which was good for 74 points.  In his six years in the NFL, Suisham played in 55 games in which he has made 85 of 107 field goals (79.4%) and 96 of 98 extra points which is good for 351 points.  The Redskins have signed 22-year old Graham Gano who was a good kicker in college at Florida State but he is a unproven player in the NFL so the jury is out on him.

The Washington Redskins lose Jeremy Jarmon for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, Injury Reports, General Redskins Talk by admin on Tuesday 1 December 2009 at 3:08 pm

The Redskins have lost rookie DE Jeremy Jarmon for the rest of the year with a torn left ACL.  Jarmon played in all 11 games for the Redskins this year and he made 9 tackles, forced 1 fumble and he defensed 1 pass.  Jarmon was a find for the Redskins as a undrafted rookie out of Kentucky.  The Redskins won’t likely miss him too much the rest of the year but they did find a guy with a nice little upside in Jarmon.
