The Redskins have acquired 33-year old QB Donovan McNabb from the Eagles for a 2nd round pick in 2010 (#37 overall) and a conditional 3rd or 4th rounder in 2011 based on his performance in 2010.  McNabb played in 14 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 267 of 443 passes (60.3%) for 3,553 yards with 22 TD passes and 10 INTs (92.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 37 times for 140 yards (3.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs last year.  McNabb has played in 148 games (11 years) in the NFL in which he has completed 2,801 of 4,746 passes (59%) for 32,873 yards with 216 TD passes and 100 INTs (86.5 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 573 times for 3,249 yards (5.7 ypc) with 28 TD runs in his career.  This was a outstanding move for the Redskins as McNabb is a winner.

The Washington Redskins sign Rex Grossman

The Redskins have signed 29-year old QB Rex Grossman to a 1-year deal.  Grossman played in 1 game for the Texans last season and he was 3 of 9 passing (33.3%) for 33 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (5.6 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 3 times for 9 yards (3.0 ypc) last year.  He has now played in 37 games in his NFL career in which he has completed 524 of 971 passes (54%) for 6,197 yards with 33 TD passes and 36 INTs (69.5 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 58 times for 89 yards (1.5 ypc) with 3 TD runs in his career.  Grossman will be Jason Campbell’s backup in 2010 but I don’t think he is a better QB than last year’s backup Todd Collins.

Chris Samuels retires from the Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by admin on Thursday 4 March 2010 at 9:34 am

32-year old OT Chris Samuels has decided to retire from the NFL due to injury problems.  Samuels played in 5 games (all starts) for the Redskins last season.  He finishes his 10-year NFL career (all with the Redskins) having played in 141 games (all starts).  He is one of the best linemen in Redskins’ history and they will miss him.

Mike Shanahan is the new Washington Redskins head coach

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by Andrew on Tuesday 5 January 2010 at 11:26 pm

The Washington Redskins signed Mike Shanahan to a five-year deal making him the head coach and executive vice president of football operations.  That means Shanahan will have the final say on all football related decisions.  The deal is worth about $7 million a year, but Shanahan is a proven winner with a career record of 146-98 and a playoff record of 8-5, including two Super Bowl wins.  This deal happened quickly after former head coach Jim Zorn was fired.  Zorn led the Washington Redskins to a 4-12 record this season and was let go on Monday.  Shanahan was one of the most sought after coaches, and this is a good move by the Redskins.

The Washington Redskins fire Jim Zorn

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by admin on Monday 4 January 2010 at 8:41 pm

The Redskins have fired head coach Jim Zorn.  Zorn led the Redskins to a 4-12 record this season and a last place finish in the NFC East.  The Redskins were hard to watch on offense as they only averaged 16.6 points per game wasting a solid defense that allowed 21.0 points per game.  The Redskins were also 0-6 in the division which certainly didn’t help things this season.  The Redskins were 12-20 (37.5%) under Zorn who deserved to get fired.
