The Washington Redskins deal DT Albert Haynesworth to the Patriots

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Trades by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:44 pm

The Redskins have traded 30-year old DT Albert Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th round pick in 2013.  Haynesworth played in 8 games for the Redskins last year and he had 16 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  He played in 20 games in his two years in Washington and he had 53 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 6 passes defensed.  The Redskins were smart to deal Haynesworth to avoid the drama between him and head coach Mike Shanahan.

The Washington Redskins deal Donovan McNabb to the Vikings

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Redskins Headlines,Trades by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 2:58 pm

The Redskins have dealt 34-year old QB Donovan McNabb to the Minnesota Vikings for a 6th round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and a conditional 6th round pick in 2013.  McNabb played in 13 games (all starts) for the Redskins last year and he completed 275 of 472 passes (58.3%) for 3,377 yards with 14 TD passes and 15 INTs (77.1 QB Rating).  McNabb also carried the ball 29 times for 151 yards (5.2 ypc) last year.  The Redskins were only 5-8 (38.5%) in games started by McNabb at QB.  The Redskins didn’t get much for McNabb, but at least the tension will be gone from the sidelines (providing that they can also get rid of DT Albert Haynesworth).  The Redskins still have work to do at QB as John Beck is the only QB left on the roster right now.

The Washington Redskins release Josh Bidwell

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Redskins Headlines by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 12:21 am

The Redskins have released 35-year old punter Josh Bidwell.  Bidwell played in 4 games for the Redskins last year and he punted the ball 15 times for 625 yards (41.7 avg).  He pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 3 times (20%) and he didn’t have any touchbacks.  The Redskins have decided to go in a different direction at punter so they won’t miss Bidwell one bit going forward.

The Washington Redskins release Derrick Dockery

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 2 March 2011 at 2:49 pm

The Washington Redskins have released 30-year old guard Derrick Dockery.  Dockery played in 5 games (2 starts) for the Redskins last season.  He played in 85 games (79 starts) in six seasons with the Redskins.  The Redskins think they will be able to do better in free agency.

The Washington Redskins release Andre Carter

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 2 March 2011 at 2:44 pm

The Washington Redskins have released 31-year old OLB/DE Andre Carter.  Carter played in all 16 games for the Redskins last season and he had 44 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 pass defensed, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.  Carter played in 80 games in his five years with the Redskins and he had 245 tackles, 10 passes defensed, 34 sacks and 8 forced fumbles.  Although Carter didn’t play especially well last season the Redskins are going to have to target a pass rusher at DE or OLB to replace him.

The Washington Redskins release Clinton Portis

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Monday 28 February 2011 at 8:36 pm

The Washington Redskins have released 29-year old running back Clinton Portis.  Portis only played in 5 games (all starts) for the Redskins last season due to injury.  He carried the ball 54 times for 227 yards (4.2 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 5 passes for 55 yards (11.0 avg) last year.  Portis played 7 years for the Redskins appearing in 84 games (83 starts) in which he carried the ball 1,667 times for 6,824 yards (4.1 ypc) with 46 TD runs.  He also caught 176 passes for 1,340 yards (7.6 avg) with 3 TD grabs for the Redskins.  Portis finishes second in Redskins’ history in both rushing yards and rushing TDs behind only the legendary John Riggins.

The Washington Redskins cut Hunter Smith and sign a new punter

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 15 December 2010 at 5:25 am

The Redskins have cut 33-year old punter Hunter Smith and they have signed 26-year old punter Sam Paulescu to replace him.  Smith played in 9 games for the Redskins this season and he punted the ball 57 times for 2,310 yards (40.5 avg).  He also placed 17 punts inside the opposing 20-yard line (29.8%) and he had only 1 touchback (1.8%) for the Skins.  But, he botched a snap on an extra point which would have tied the game against the Bucs last week and that is the most likely reason he is unemployed right now.  Sam Paulescu will replace Smith as both the punter and the holder on field goals and extra points.  Paulescu played in 1 game for the Redskins last season and he punted the ball 3 times for 150 yards (50.0 avg).  He has now played in 17 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has punted the ball 85 times for 3,606 yards (42.4 avg).  He also has 10 touchbacks (11.8%) and he has pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 23 times (27.1%).

The Washington Redskins waive Joey Galloway

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 30 November 2010 at 2:36 pm

The Redskins have waived 39-year old WR Joey Galloway.  Galloway played in 10 games for the Redskins this season and he caught 12 passes for 173 yards (14.4 avg) and he also had 2 tackles.  Galloway only caught 12 of 38 targets (31.6%) this season and while not every throw was a perfect one he still should have caught a lot more passes than he did.  The Redskins have signed rookie WR Terrence Austin off the practice squad to replace Galloway.  He was a 7th round pick out of UCLA.

The Washington Redskins release Devin Thomas

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 9 October 2010 at 12:57 pm

The Redskins have released WR/KR Devin Thomas.  Thomas played in 4 games for the Skins this year but he didn’t catch any passes.  He did however return 12 kickoffs for 336 yards (28.0 avg) this year.  Thomas played in 44 games for the Redskins in his three years with the team and he caught 40 passes for 445 yards (11.1 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He also carried the ball 6 times for 51 yards (8.5 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also returned 32 kickoffs for 775 yards (24.2 avg).  Thomas is going to hook on with another team so the Redskins might regret letting him go.

UPDATE:  (10/19/2010) – Thomas was claimed off waivers by the Panthers last week.

The Washington Redskins release Keiland Williams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 5 October 2010 at 11:15 am

The Redskins have released 24-year old RB Keiland Williams.  Williams made the Redskins as a undrafted rookie out of LSU.  But the Redskins like Ryan Torain better than him which led to his release.  Williams played in 3 games for the Redskins this year and he didn’t carry the ball.  He did catch 6 passes for 29 yards (4.8 avg) though as he was helpful in the passing game.

UPDATE:  (10/6/2010) – After he cleared waivers the Redskins signed him to the practice squad.  He has been signed off the practice squad due to Clinton Portis’ recent injury.
