The Redskins have placed 27-year old starting safety LaRon Landry on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to groin and Achilles injuries.  He played in 8 games for the Redskins this year and he had 48 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  The Redskins are going to replace Landry in the starting lineup with 22-year old rookie corner DeJon Gomes.  Gomes has played in 12 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has 24 tackles and 1 pass defensed.

The Redskins have lost 22-year old rookie WR Leonard Hankerson for the rest of the year due to a hip injury.  Hankerson played in 4 games for the Redskins this year and he caught 13 passes for 163 yards (12.5 avg).  But, Hankerson really stepped up against the Dolphins last weekend when he caught 8 passes for 106 yards (13.3 avg).  This is a big loss to the Redskins as they have been losing WRs left and right due to injury.

The Washington Redskins lose DE Kedric Gholston for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Monday 14 November 2011 at 11:15 pm

The Washington Redskins will be without DE Kedric Gholston for a while due to a MCL tear and a partially torn ACL.  He has played in 9 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  Gholston has now played in 82 games in his first six years with the Redskins and he has 168 tackles, 7 sacks, 8 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 7 passes defensed.  The Redskins will miss Gholston as he has been solid off the bench for them this year.

UPDATE:  (11/15/2011) – The Redskins have placed Kedric Gholston on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season.

The Redskins have placed 31-year old CB Phillip Buchanon on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season early due to a shoulder injury.  Buchanon played in 1 game for the Redskins this year, but he didn’t have any tackles.  Buchanon has now played in 17 games in his first two years with the Redskins and he has 49 tackles, 18 passes defensed, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 tackles for a loss.

The Washington Redskins fear that Tim Hightower has a torn left ACL

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Monday 24 October 2011 at 6:42 pm

Starting RB Tim Hightower is having an MRI today to see if he has a torn left ACL.  Hightower has carried the ball 84 times for 321 yards (3.8 ypc) with 1 TD run and he has also caught 10 passes for 78 yards (7.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.  If Hightower is indeed out for the season, Ryan Torain and Roy Helu will share the load in the running game.  Torain has carried the ball 31 times for 152 yards (4.9 ypc) with 1 TD run so far this year, but he has yet to catch a pass.  Rookie Roy Helu has carried the ball 27 times for 131 yards (4.9 ypc) and he has also caught 9 passes for 72 yards (8.0 avg) so far this year.  Losing Hightower would be a blow to the Redskins’ offense but at least they have a couple of capable replacements in Torain and Helu.

UPDATE:  The MRI Hightower took today confirmed that he has a torn left ACL.  He is done for the season.

The Washington Redskins will be without WR Santana Moss for the next 5-7 weeks

The Washington Redskins lose starting LG Corey Lichtensteiger for the rest of the 2011 season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 3:07 pm

26-year old left guard Corey Lichtensteiger will miss the rest of the 2011 season as he tore his right ACL and MCL in last Sunday’s game against the Eagles.  He started all five games for the Redskins in 2011 and he has played in 21 games (19 starts) in his first two years with the Redskins.  28-year old center Will Montgomery will move from center to left guard to replace Lichtensteiger.  Montgomery has played in 5 games (all starts) for the Redskins so far this year.  He has now played in 34 games (14 starts) in his first 4 years with the Redskins.  24-year old Erik Cook will replace Montgomery as the Redskins’ starting center.  Cook has played in 1 game (0 starts) for the Redskins so far this year.  Losing Lichtensteiger is a huge blow to the Redskins’ offense.

The Washington Redskins lose TE Chris Cooley for a while

The Washington Redskins will be without 29-year old TE Chris Cooley for at least the next six weeks due to a fractured left index finger which requires surgery to repair.  Cooley has played in all five games for the Redskins so far this year and he has caught 8 passes for 65 yards (8.1 avg).  25-year old TE Fred Davis will continue to start at TE with Chris Cooley out of action.  Davis has played in all five games for the Redskins so far this year and he has caught 22 passes for 343 yards (15.6 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Look for Davis to continue to roll for the Redskins.

UPDATE:  (10/26/2011) – The Redskins have placed Chris Cooley on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season due to his banged up knee.

The Washington Redskins lose starting LT Trent Williams for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 2:51 pm

The Washington Redskins have lost 23-year old starting LT Trent Williams for at least a couple of weeks due to a high ankle sprain.  Williams has started all five games for the Redskins so far this year.  He has now played in 19 games (18 starts) in his first two years with the Redskins.  Williams will likely be replaced on the left side by 30-year old starting RT Jamaal Brown.  Brown has also started all five games for the Redskins this year.  He has now played in 20 games (19 starts) in his first two years with the Redskins.  This is a bad break for the Redskins’ offense as Williams is a pretty darn good offensive tackle.

The Washington Redskins lose Jarvis Jenkins for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,The Draft Report by admin on Friday 26 August 2011 at 9:21 pm

The Redskins have lost 23-year old DT Jarvis Jenkins to a torn ACL last night.  He played in 3 games in the preseason for the Redskins and he had 1 tackle.  Jenkins was a second round pick out of Clemson last April and the Redskins were depending on him to help the defense in 2011.  This is a big blow to the Skins but they hope he will be ready to rock in 2012.
