The Washington Redskins sign Hunter Smith

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 6 October 2010 at 5:46 pm

The Redskins have signed 33-year old punter Hunter Smith.  Smith played in 13 games for the Redskins last season and he punted the ball 57 times for 2,356 yards (41.3 avg).  He placed 23 punts inside the opposing 20-yard line (40.4%) last season and he had 5 touchbacks (8.8%).  Smith was signed because 34-year old Josh Bidwell his having hip problems which could land him on I.R.  Bidwell has played in 4 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has punted the ball 15 times for 625 yards (41.7 avg).  He pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 3 times (15%) and he didn’t have any touchbacks.

UPDATE:  (10/7/2010) – The Redskins have placed Josh Bidwell on I.R. so his season is over.

The Washington Redskins lose Clinton Portis for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,Needs to Step Up by admin on Wednesday 6 October 2010 at 5:42 pm

The Redskins will be without starting RB Clinton Portis for at least the next 4-6 weeks due to a 3rd degree separation of his groin.  Portis has played in 4 games for the Redskins this year and he has 49 carries for 195 yards (4.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He has also caught 4 passes for 41 yards (10.3 avg) this year.  24-year old Ryan Torain will get the first shot to replace Portis as the Redskins’ featured back.  Torain has played in 2 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has carried the ball 25 times for 116 yards (4.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He is a favorite of head coach Mike Shanahan who drafted him in Denver.

The Washington Redskins place Malcolm Kelly on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 31 August 2010 at 5:21 pm

The Redskins have placed 23-year old WR Malcolm Kelly on the Injured Reserve List with a hamstring injury.  Kelly played in all 16 games for the Redskins last season and he caught 25 passes for 347 yards (13.9 avg).  In two years with the Skins, Kelly has played in 21 games in which he has caught 28 passes for 365 yards (13.0 avg).  Kelly has been a huge disappointment for the Redskins since they drafted him three years ago in the 2nd round.

The Washington Redskins place Mike Furrey on I.R.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 20 August 2010 at 6:20 pm

The Redskins have placed 33-year old WR/S Mike Furrey on the Injured Reserve List with a severe concussion.  He has had multiple concussions in his career so it could be over.  That is a shame because Furrey is so versatile that he’s a great player to have around.  He has played in 94 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 221 passes for 2,298 yards (10.4 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  Furrey also has 77 tackles, 6 passes defensed, 4 interceptions (143 yards in returns) with a 67-yard return for a TD and he has recovered 2 fumbles.  He could also return kickoffs or punts in a pinch.  He has returned 21 kickoffs for 387 yards (18.4 avg) and 23 punts for 213 yards (9.3 avg) in his NFL career.

The Washington Redskins lose Mike Williams for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,Redskins Headlines by admin on Saturday 10 July 2010 at 11:09 am

The Redskins have lost veteran T/G Mike Williams for the 2010 season.   The Redskins signed Williams to a 2-year, $1.49 million dollar deal last March as a free agent.  He will miss the 2010 season because he has blood clots near his heart.  Thank God that they found the blood clots before Williams got onto the practice field or this could have been a tragedy.

The Washington Redskins place two players on I.R.

The Redskins have placed strong safety Reed Doughty and OT Mike Williams on the Injured Reserve ending their seasons.  Doughty has a ankle injury and Williams a foot injury.  Doughty played in 15 games for the Redskins this season and he made 91 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, defensed 3 passes and he had 1 interception.  Mike Williams played in 8 games (all starts) for the Redskins this season.  They will miss both of these guys against the Chargers on Sunday.

Clinton Portis of the Washington Redskins is done for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 9 December 2009 at 11:42 pm

The Redskins have placed starting RB Clinton Portis on the Injured Reserve List due to a serious concussion.  Portis played in 8 games for the Redskins this season and he carried the ball 124 times for 494 yards (4.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 9 passes for 57 yards (6.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  This injury has really hurt the Redskins this season as it has put too much of the pressure on Jason Campbell to carry the team through the air.

The Washington Redskins lose Jeremy Jarmon for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,Redskins Headlines by admin on Tuesday 1 December 2009 at 3:08 pm

The Redskins have lost rookie DE Jeremy Jarmon for the rest of the year with a torn left ACL.  Jarmon played in all 11 games for the Redskins this year and he made 9 tackles, forced 1 fumble and he defensed 1 pass.  Jarmon was a find for the Redskins as a undrafted rookie out of Kentucky.  The Redskins won’t likely miss him too much the rest of the year but they did find a guy with a nice little upside in Jarmon.

The Washington Redskins lose a couple of more players for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 24 November 2009 at 11:29 am

The Redskins have lost G/T Chad Rinehart and back up fullback Eddie Williams for the year as both of them have broken fibulas.  Rinehart played in 4 games (all starts) for the Redskins this season.  Williams didn’t do much of anything for the Redskins this year.  These injuries will hurt the depth of the Redskins but that’s about it.

The Washington Redskins lose Ladell Betts for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,Redskins Headlines by admin on Monday 23 November 2009 at 10:39 am

The Redskins have lost 30-year old running back Ladell Betts for the rest of the season due to a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee.  Betts played in all 10 games for the Redskins so far this season and he rushed the ball 56 times for 210 yards (3.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He also caught 17 passes for 179 yards (10.5 avg) and he returned 1 kickoff for 29 yards this year.  Betts’ injury coupled with the loss of Clinton Portis to a concussion could leave the Redskins in dire straits at RB for the near future.
