The Redskins took advantage of some big miscues by the Cowboys to win this game.  Donovan McNabb was so-so in his first game for the Redskins as he completed 15 of 32 passes for 171 yards.  He also had 1 carry for 17 yards in this game.  Clinton Portis led the way on the ground for the Redskins in this game with 63 yards on 18 carries (3.5 ypc).  TE Chris Cooley (6 rec, 80 yards) and WR Santana Moss (6 rec, 77 yards) led the way for the Redskins in the passing game last night.  The Redskins finished up with 89 yards rushing on 23 carries (3.9 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 32 passes for 161 yards.

The defense was solid as they held the Cowboys to only 7 points despite giving up a lot of yardage.  Safety LaRon Landry was really busy as he finished up with 17 tackles and 1 pass defensed.  London Fletcher has his usual type game with 11 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  Rocky McIntosh was also very active with 10 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit.  CB DeAngelo Hall made the biggest play in this game for the Redskins.  On the last play of the first half he recovered a Tashard Choice fumble which he returned 32 yards for a TD.  He also had 8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and he defensed 2 passes.  The Cowboys finished up with 103 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also completed 31 of 48 passes for 277 yards in this game.  The Redskins got a huge home division win to start the 2010 NFL season.

Washington Redskins 20, San Diego Chargers 23

The Washington Redskins (4-12) had a late game collapse and lost a close one to the San Diego Chargers (13-3).  Head coach Jim Zorn was fired shortly after the loss, which brought an end to an ugly 2009 season for the Redskins.  It wasn’t even the Chargers starters who beat the Redskins, as backup quarterback Billy Volek hit Mike Tolbert for the game-winning touchdown pass.  Philip Rivers didn’t play much for the Chargers, but he still went 9/15 for 99 yards and 1 touchdown.  The Redskins did hold the Chargers to 50 rushing yards, but the 314 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes by the Chargers were the difference makers in this game.

Jason Campbell did a pretty good job leading the offense in this game, but the late game defensive let-down prevented Campbell from getting another win for the Skins.  Campbell went 28/42 for 281 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He did not turn the ball over and helped the Skins go up 17-13 in the third quarter after being down 13-0 in second quarter.  Campbell didn’t get much help from the running backs, with the Skins getting only 64 rushing yards on 22 carries.  Hopefully for the Redskins, a new coaching staff will help spark some life into this team in the 2010 season.

The Redskins were pretty bad all away around last night.  Jason Campbell did not look good last night completing 24 of 39 passes for 199 yards with 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 13 yards (3.3 ypc) in this game.  Quinton Ganther also had a poor game with 13 yards rushing on 7 carries (1.9 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 16 yards.  Santana Moss led the way in the passing game for the Redskins last night with 8 grabs for 92 yards (11.5 avg).  The Redskins finished up with 218 total yards on offense (43 rushing, 175 passing) in this game as they only had possession of the ball for 24:58.

Safety LaRon Landry led the way for the Redskins on defense with 11 tackles and 1 QB hit.  LB London Fletcher (8 tackles, pass defensed) and safety Reed Doughty (3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception) also pitched in for the Redskins on D last night.  The Cowboys finished up with 393 total yards on offense (108 rushing, 285 passing) in this game.  The Redskins are now 4-11 on the year.

Washington Redskins 12, New York Giants 45

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Redskins Talk by Andrew on Tuesday 22 December 2009 at 7:55 am

To say this game was ugly for the Washington Redskins (8-6) would be an understatement, as the New York Giants (4-10) embarrassed them.  Jason Campbell did not play well at all, but he got very little protection and little help from the running game.  Campbell threw 2 interceptions and 1 touchdown, gaining 192 yards through the air on 15/28 pass attempts.  Campbell was sacked five times though, so not all of the blame can fall on him since he was pressured all night by the Giants front line.  The running game only gave him 89 yards, and he accounted for 36 of those rushing yards.  Unless it is Michael Vick in 2003, its usually not a good sign when your quarterback leads you in rushing.  Its never a good sign when your leading rusher only has 36 yards either.

The Redskins didn’t do much of anything right on defense, and found themselves down 24-0 at halftime.  Eli Manning lit them up for 3 touchdowns and 268 yards on 19/26 passes.  They also gave up a lot on the ground, with the Giants gaining 114 yards on 30 carries.  Ahmad Bradshaw only needed 9 carries against them to get 2 touchdowns and 61 yards.  The Redskins did not come out ready to play and the Giants took advantage.  A very poor effort by the Skins.

Washington Redskins 34, Oakland Raiders 13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General Redskins Talk by Andrew on Monday 14 December 2009 at 10:14 pm

The Washington Redskins (4-9) have been making a habit out of blowing fourth quarter leads this season, but that didn’t happen Sunday against the Oakland Raiders (4-9).  With only a 17-13 lead going into the fourth quarter, the Redskins blew up for 17 points in the final quarter while also holding the Raiders scoreless.  Jason Campbell had a good day at quarterback for the Skins, throwing two touchdown passes and finishing 16/28 for 222 yards.  Quinton Ganther pitched in pretty nicely as well, rushing for 2 touchdowns and 50 yards on 14 carries.

On defense the Redskins played great, especially in the final quarter.  Brian Orakpo lead the way for the D, tying a franchise record with 4 sacks.  He also had 6 tackles and a forced fumble.  The Raiders lost their starting quarterback Bruce Gradkowski after injuring his knees, and the Raiders could not get much offense going with JaMarcus Russell back under center.  The Redskins only gave up one third quarter field goal for the Raiders’ only points of the second half.  A very solid game for the Redskins.

Washington Redskins 30, New Orleans Saints 33 OT

The Washington Redskins (3-9) went toe-to-toe with the undefeated New Orleans Saints (12-0), but they fell short in overtime.  Bad luck and turnovers cost the Redskins this game.  With a 7-point lead, the Redskins had an opportunity to pretty much seal the game late  in the 4th quarter, but Shaun Suisham missed a 23 yard field goal and the Saints stayed alive.  Suisham has now been cut by the Redskins.  Also, with 22 seconds left in the first half, the Saints turned an interception thrown by their quarterback Drew Brees into a touchdown when Robert Meachum stripped Kareem Moore (who had intercepted Brees) and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown.  The Redskins lost three fumbles in this game, and if they would have just held on to the ball they would have won.

The Redskins offense gave their best effort against arguably the best offense in the NFL this season.  They held the Saints to 55 rushing yards, but they gave up way too much in the passing game.  Drew Brees threw for 2 touchdowns and 419 yards on 35/49 pass attempt.  He had the one interception, but it turned into a Saints touchdown anyway.  This was almost the upset of the season and if they had a reliable kicker it probably would have happened.

Philadelphia Eagles 27, Washington Redskins 24

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Redskins Talk by admin on Monday 30 November 2009 at 9:37 am

The Redskins played their butts off yesterday in Philly but they just came up a tad short.  Jason Campbell was effective yesterday completing 22 of 37 passes for 231 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 2 yards (1.0 ypc) with a TD run.  Rock Cartwright did not have a good game rushing for 38 yards on 15 carries (2.5 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 26 yards (8.7 avg).  Quinton Ganther pitched in with 32 yards rushing on 5 carries (6.4 ypc) yesterday.  Malcolm Kelly (2 rec, 50 yards), Devin Thomas (4 rec, 46 yards), Fred Davis (4 rec, 43 yards, TD) and Santana Moss (4 rec, 28 yards, TD) all pitched in on the passing game for the Redskins yesterday and it was a good sign.  The Redskins finished up with 303 total yards on offense (82 rushing, 221 passing) in this game.

The defense didn’t play too well for the Redskins in this game.  You can’t blame London Fletcher for that as he had 12 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit.  Safety Reed Doughty pitched in with 9 tackles yesterday.  The Eagles finished up with 381 total yards on offense (123 rushing, 258 passing) in this game.  The Redskins are now 3-8 on the year.

Washington Redskins 6, Dallas Cowboys 7

The Washington Redskins (3-7) should have beat the Dallas Cowboys (7-3) on Sunday, but two missed field goals by Shuan Suisham ended up being the difference maker.  Injuries also have really set the Redskins back as Clinton Portis, Albert Haynesworth, and Chris Cooley all sat this game out.  The injury bug continued to spread in this game with Ladell Betts injuring his knee and right tackle Chad Rinehart breaking his leg.  The Redskins still battled the Cowboys very well and the defense did a very good job against Tony Romo and the Cowboys’ offense.  They got two turnovers and held Romo to 1 touchdown, 1 interception, and 158 yards on 15/27 passes.  They couldn’t stop Romo when a stop was needed most though.  With 2:41 left in the game Romo hit Patrick Crayton in the endzone to put the Cowboys ahead.  They also let Marion Barber rush for 99 yards on 20 carries.

The Redskins offense could not find the endzone in this one.  Betts left the game after only four carries after injuring his MCL so the running back duties fell to third stringer Rock Cartwright, who did a decent job rushing for 67 yards on 13 carries.  Cartwright also caught seven passes for 73 yards.  Jason Campbell had a pretty good game, going 24/37 for 256 yards, but he just could not lead the Skins to a touchdown and his late game comeback attempt fell short and ended with an interception.  Campbell was great in third down situations though, going 12-12 for 150 yards on 3rd downs, and he did enough to lead this team to the win if his kicker did his job.  Suisham missed a 39-yard field goal attempt right before the half and then missed a 50-yard field goal attempt late in the 4th quarter before Romo’s touchdown.  If Suisham hits either one of those the Redskins win the game.

Washington Redskins 27, Denver Broncos 17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Game Recaps,General Redskins Talk by Andrew on Monday 16 November 2009 at 11:54 pm

The Washington Redskins (3-6) did not start off well against the Denver Broncos (6-3) on Sunday.  They gave up two very big passing plays in the first quarter to Broncos’ receiver Brandon Marshall.  He had a 40-yard touchdown catch and a 75-yard touchdown catch from Kyle Orton, and the Broncos had a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.  The Broncos looked like they were going to hold the Redskins to only 7 first half points, but a fake punt changed the whole game.  The Redskins were almost obvious about their fake, but it worked.  It was 4th and 20 on the 35-yard line when punter Hunter Smith took the snap and rolled out to the right before floating a 35-yard touchdown pass to Mike Sellers.  It tied the game at 14 and the Broncos got a late field goal to give them a slight 17-14 halftime lead.

The Redskins completely shut down the Broncos passing game in the second half.  Most of that was because Broncos’ starting quarterback Kyle Orton injured his ankle late in the first half and did not return.  Chris Simms replaced him and did terrible.  He went 3/13 for 13 yards and DeAngelo Hall intercepted him.  They let Knowshown Moreno rush for 97 yards on 18 carries, but they kept him out of the endzone.  Overall it was a solid performance by the defense and they will need more of the same against the Dallas Cowboys next game.

Atlanta Falcons 31, Washington Redskins 17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Redskins Talk by admin on Sunday 8 November 2009 at 6:35 pm

The Redskins were awful again earlier today as they fell behind 24-3 at the half before showing some pride in the second half.  Jason Campbell completed 15 of 22 passes for 196 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception (which was returned 62 yards for a TD by Falcons’ CB Tye Hill).  The pick six was not entirely his fault as the pass bounced off Fred Davis’ brick hands.  Campbell also carried the ball 5 times for 40 yards (8.0 ypc).  Todd Collins finished up this mess by completing 4 of 5 passes for 12 yards.  Ladell Betts led the way for the Redskins on the ground with 15 carries for 70 yards (4.7 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Fullback Mike Sellers led the way in the passing game for the Skins with 56 yards receiving on 3 catches (18.7 avg).  Santana Moss pitched in with 5 catches for 47 yards (9.4 avg).  The Redskins finished up with 312 total yards in this game on offense (136 rushing, 176 passing).

Safeties Chris Horton and Reed Doughty led the way for the Redskins with six tackles apiece in this game.  But, rookie OLB Brian Orakpo was the best player on the D today for the Skins as he finished up with 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 QB hits.  The Falcons rolled up 306 total yards on offense in this game (181 rushing, 125 passing).  The Redskins are now 2-6 on the season.
