The Washington Redskins sign OT Sean Locklear

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Saturday 6 August 2011 at 12:35 am

The Redskins have signed 30-year old OT Sean Locklear.  Locklear played in 16 games (15 starts) for the Seahawks last year.  He has now played in 97 games (78 starts) in his first 7 years in the NFL.  This was a good move for the Redskins as Locklear could win a starting job for them.  If nothing else, he will provide quality depth on the O-Line and that’s not easy to find.

The Washington Redskins sign center Donovan Raiola

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 2:45 pm

The Washington Redskins have signed 28-year old center Donovan Raiola.  Raiola has only played in 1 game in his NFL career, so don’t expect much out of him.  He was signed to give the Redskins depth on the interior of the offensive line.  But, he’s going to have a hard time making the team.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Redskins have released Donovan Raiola.

The Washington Redskins sign kicker Shayne Graham

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 4:09 am

The Redskins have signed 33-year old kicker Shayne Graham.  Graham played in 9 games (0 starts) for the Giants and Patriots last year.  He connected on all 12 of his field goal attempts last year and he was 39 of 41 on extra points good for 75 points.  Graham has now played in 136 games in his first 10 years in the NFL and he has made 208 of 242 field goals (86%).  He has also made 315 of 320 extra points in his career as he has scored 939 points.  Graham was brought in to challenge Graham Gano for the starting kicker job.

UPDATE:  (8/16/2011) – The Redskins have released Shayne Graham.  Graham missed both of his field goal attempts in the pre-season opener against the Steelers.

The Washington Redskins sign punter Sav Rocca

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 8:38 pm

The Redskins have signed 37-year old punter Sav Rocca.  Rocca played in 16 games for the Eagles last year and he punted the ball 73 times for 3,195 yards (42.9 avg).  He only had 2 touchbacks (2.7%) last year and he pinned the opposition inside the their own 20-yard line 28 times (38.4%).  Rocca has now played in 64 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has punted the ball 299 times for 12,817 yards (42.9 avg).  He has also had 17 touchbacks (5.7%) and he has played the opposing team inside their 20-yard line 102 times (34.1%).  This is a good move for the Redskins as Rocca will help them and it will hurt the Eagles because he is good at his job.

The Washington Redskins sign G/C Chris Chester

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 8:34 pm

The Redskins have signed 28-year old G/C Chris Chester to a 5-year, $20 million dollar deal.  Chester played in 14 games (all starts) for the Ravens last year.  He has now played in 74 games (47 starts) in his five years in the NFL.  Chester will start at RG for the Redskins according to multiple reports and he could be a solid lineman in the new zone blocking scheme.  I really like this move for the Redskins who needed to improve the offensive line.

The Washington Redskins sign DE Stephen Bowen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:59 pm

The Redskins have signed 27-year old DE Stephen Bowen to a 5-year, $27.5 million dollar contract.  Bowen played in all 16 games for the Cowboys last year and he had 22 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  Bowen has now played in 63 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 72 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 7 tackles for a loss, 3 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  The Redskins will either look like fools or geniuses on this deal because they spent a lot of jack on a player who has never been a full-time starter.

The Washington Redskins sign CB Josh Wilson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 7:14 pm

The Redskins have signed 26-year old CB Josh Wilson to a 3-year, $13.5 million dollar deal.  Wilson played in 14 games for the Ravens last year and he had 40 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery, 3 interceptions (one returned for a TD) and he defensed 14 passes.  Wilson has now played in 54 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 170 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 36 passes defensed and 9 interceptions (4 returned for TDs).  This was a good move for the Redskins as Wilson is a playmaker.

The Washington Redskins sign QB Kellen Clemens

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 7:50 pm

The Redskins have signed 28-year old QB Kellen Clemens to a 1-year deal.  Clemens played in 1 game (he didn’t start) last year for the Jets and he completed 1 of 2 passes (50%) for 6 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs (56.2 QB Rating).  Clemens also carried the ball 2 times for 9 yards (4.5 ypc) with 1 TD run last year.  Clemens has now played in 25 games (9 starts) in his first five years in the NFL and he has completed 147 of 284 passes (51.8%) for 1,686 yards with 5 TD passes and 11 INTs (59.7 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 46 times for 128 yards (2.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Clemens is 4-5 (44.4%) as a starting QB in the NFL.  It appears that the Redskins are trying to corner the market on stinky QBs.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Redskins have released Kellen Clemens.

The Washington Redskins sign NT Barry Cofield

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 3:06 pm

The Redskins have signed 27-year old NT Barry Cofield to a six year contract.  Cofield played in 16 games for the Giants last year and he had 54 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and he defensed 4 passes.  Cofield has now played in 79 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 210 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and an amazing 11 passes defensed.  This is a good signing for the Redskins as they need to rebuild on defense and Cofield is a good start in the middle.

The Washington Redskins sign Donte’ Stallworth

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 3:02 pm

The Redskins have signed 30-year old WR Donte’ Stallworth to a 1-year deal.  Stallworth played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Ravens last year and he caught 2 passes for 82 yards (41.0 avg).  He also carried the ball 5 times for 45 yards (9.0 ypc) for the Ravens last year.  Stallworth has now played in 103 games (60 starts) in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has caught 298 passes for 4,465 (15.0 avg) with 32 TD grabs.  He has also carried the ball 18 times for 97 yards (5.4 ypc) in his NFL career.  As long as the Redskins didn’t give him too much money, I like this signing for them as Stallworth will add more speed to the WRing corps in 2011.
