The Washington Redskins scored the last 16 points of this game in the last 9:51 to surge to a very nice road win in Seattle today.  The good Rex Grossman showed up late in the game today as he completed 26 of 35 passes for 314 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs.  Rookie RB Roy Helu led the way on the ground for the Skins today with 108 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.7 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 7 passes for 54 yards (7.7 avg).  WR Jabar Gaffney (5 rec, 72 yards), TE Fred Davis (4 rec, 58 yards, TD) and WR Anthony Armstrong (1 rec, 50 yards, TD) led the way for the Redskins in the passing game today.  WR Santana Moss returned to action for the Skins today and he pitched in with 4 grabs for 29 yards (7.3 avg).  The Redskins finished up with 110 yards rushing on 29 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 26 of 35 passes (74.3%) for 306 yards as they had possession of the ball for 33:20.

The defense played pretty well for the Redskins today.  LBs Perry Riley (14 tackles) and London Fletcher (11 tackles) led the way for the Redskins today.  DE Stephen Bowen (6 tackles, 2 QB hits and 1/2 a sack) and CB DeAngelo Hall (5 tackles, 6 passes defensed and 1 interception) also had big games for the Skins today.  The Seahawks finished up with 124 yards rushing on 30 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 30 passes (46.7%) for 126 yards.  The Redskins are now 4-7 on the year.

Washington Redskins (3-7) vs. Seattle Seahawks (4-6)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 26 November 2011 at 12:28 am

The Redskins have lost six games in a row as the wheels have some off.  The Seahawks have actually won 2 games in a row and they are 2-2 at home this year.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins are likely going to come out throwing the ball in this game.  The Redskins will need to give Rex Grossman time to throw the ball, if he’s going to have success.  If the good Rex Grossman shows up, he will be able to move the ball on the Seahawks who are giving up 233.0 yards passing per game.  The Redskins will likely be getting Santana Moss back this Sunday, which will give them a lot of options for Grossman to throw to.  TE Fred Davis, WR Jabar Gaffney and WR Donte Stallworth will also likely get in on the action in this game for the Redskins.  The Seahawks are only giving up 3.5 yards per carry so far this year, so Roy Helu and Ryan Torain are going to have to fight for every yard they get in this game.

When the Seahawks have the ball:  The front seven better be ready to deal with RB Marshawn Lynch, who will likely have a heavy workload in this game.  The Redskins are giving up 117.3 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry, so they are going to need to step up to stop Lynch.  The Redskins will probably be coming after Tarvaris Jackson heavily with the blitz due to the injuries the Seahawks have along the O-Line.

PREDICTION:  SEAHAWKS  20, REDSKINS 17

The Washington Redskins need more out of their QBs the rest of the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Needs to Step Up by admin on Tuesday 22 November 2011 at 11:22 pm

The Redskins should stick with 31-year old QB Rex Grossman the rest of this season as the starter.  He has played in 7 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has completed 138 of 235 passes (58.7%) for 1,636 yards with 8 TD passes and 12 INTs (70.1 QB Rating).  Grossman has also carried the ball 13 times for 13 yards (1.0 ypc) with 1 TD run so far this year.  Grossman is wildly inconsistent as he is either really good or really bad.  Still, that is way better than 30-year old John Beck, who is mostly bad.  Beck has played in 4 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has completed 80 of 132 passes (60.6%) for 858 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 INTs (72.1 QB Rating).  Beck has also carried the ball 11 times for 43 yards (3.9 ypc) with 2 TD runs so far this year.

Dallas Cowboys 27, Washington Redskins 24 in O.T.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Redskins Talk by admin on Monday 21 November 2011 at 3:37 pm

Graham Gano missed two field goals, including one in O.T. and he is the goat for this loss.  The good Rex Grossman showed up yesterday as he completed 25 of 38 passes for 289 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 10 yards (3.3 ypc) with 1 TD run in his game.  Roy Helu led the way on the ground for the Redskins with 35 yards on 8 carries (4.4 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 3 yards.  WRs Jabar Gaffney (7 rec, 115 yards, TD) and Donte’ Stallworth (4 rec, 51 yards, TD) led the way through the air for the Redskins in this game.  TE Fred Davis pitched in with 6 grabs for 49 yards (8.2 avg).  The Redskins finished up with 60 yards rushing on 24 carries (2.5 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 38 passes (65.8%) for 276 yards as they had possession of the ball for 33:20.

The Redskins’ D was good against the run but not too good against the pass yesterday.  LB London Fletcher (16 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) and safety DeJon Gomes (14 tackles) led the way for the Skins on D in this game.  CB DeAngelo Hall (11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and LB Perry Riley (11 tackles) also were very busy in this game for the Redskins.  The Cowboys finished up with 89 yards rushing on 32 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 37 passes (62.2%) for 264 yards in this game.  The Redskins are now 3-7 on the season.

Washington Redskins (3-6) vs. Dallas Cowboys (5-4)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 5:17 pm

The Redskins have been terrible lately as they have lost five games in a row by a combined score of 115-53!  They lost to the Cowboys 18-16 in the 3rd week of the year in Dallas, when everyone was healthy.  The Cowboys have won two games in a row by a combined score of 67-20!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins need to try to establish a running game early tomorrow with Roy Helu and Ryan Torain.  The Cowboys are giving up 106.0 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry so far this year, so they could have some success on the ground.  The O-Line is in shambles due to injury, so I think they are going to have a hard time keeping Rex Grossman clean.  Grossman will have to throw shorter passes tomorrow, which isn’t his strength.  Fred Davis, Anthony Armstrong and Jabar Gaffney are going to have to make some plays after they catch the ball.

When the Cowboys have the ball:  The Redskins didn’t see much of D’Marco Murray in the first meeting between these teams.  That is going to change tomorrow as the Cowboys have played much better with a more balanced offense.  Tony Romo is back to being a deadly passer, so the Redskins are going to have to get after him and hit him early and hard in this game.  Because, if Romo has time to throw the ball, he’s going to find WRs Laurent Robinson, Dez Bryant and TE Jason Witten early and often.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 27, REDSKINS 10

OLB Brian Orakpo is really playing well again for the Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Steppin Up by admin on Saturday 19 November 2011 at 5:05 pm

25-year old OLB Brian Orakpo has really been playing well for the Redskins this year.  He has played in 9 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has 33 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 pass defensed.  Orakpo has now played in 40 games in his first three years with the Redskins and he has 139 tackles, 25 sacks, 6 tackles for a loss, 6 passes defensed, 4 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery.  The Redskins need Orakpo to keep up the good work as he is leading the team in sacks so far this year.

The Washington Redskins have released safety Kareem Moore

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 15 November 2011 at 9:13 pm

The Redskins have released 27-year old safety Kareem Moore.  Moore did not play at all this season due to injury.  Moore played in 42 games in four years with the Redskins and he had 113 tackles, 8 passes defensed, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.  Other safeties have passed up Moore while he was out this year, so that is the reason the Redskins let him go.  If he’s healthy, he shouldn’t have a problem finding a new team.

The Washington Redskins lose Leonard Hankerson for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports,Redskins Headlines,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 14 November 2011 at 11:17 pm

The Redskins have lost 22-year old rookie WR Leonard Hankerson for the rest of the year due to a hip injury.  Hankerson played in 4 games for the Redskins this year and he caught 13 passes for 163 yards (12.5 avg).  But, Hankerson really stepped up against the Dolphins last weekend when he caught 8 passes for 106 yards (13.3 avg).  This is a big loss to the Redskins as they have been losing WRs left and right due to injury.

The Washington Redskins lose DE Kedric Gholston for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by admin on Monday 14 November 2011 at 11:15 pm

The Washington Redskins will be without DE Kedric Gholston for a while due to a MCL tear and a partially torn ACL.  He has played in 9 games for the Redskins so far this year and he has 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  Gholston has now played in 82 games in his first six years with the Redskins and he has 168 tackles, 7 sacks, 8 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 7 passes defensed.  The Redskins will miss Gholston as he has been solid off the bench for them this year.

UPDATE:  (11/15/2011) – The Redskins have placed Kedric Gholston on the Injured Reserve List, ending his season.

Miami Dolphins 20, Washington Redskins 9

The Redskins went back to Rex Grossman at QB and the results weren’t too good.  Grossman completed 21 of 32 passes for 215 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs.  Roy Helu led the way on the ground for the Redskins once again with 41 yards rushing on six carries (6.8 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 13 yards.  Ryan Torain had a hard time yesterday as he rushed for only 20 yards on 11 carries (1.8 ypc) in this game.  Rookie WR Leonard Hankerson led the way for the Redskins in the passing game with 8 grabs for 106 yards (13.3 avg) yesterday.  WR Jabar Gaffney (3 rec, 37 yards) and TE Fred Davis (3 rec, 28 yards) also pitched in for the Redskins in the passing game yesterday.  The Redskins finished up with 61 yards rushing on 17 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 32 passes (65.6%) for 185 yards as they had possession of the ball for 26:27.

The defense didn’t play too bad for the Redskins yesterday.  Safety Reed Doughty (9 tackles), LB Perry Riley (9 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss and 1 QB hit) and LB London Fletcher (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit) led the way for the Redskins in this game.  OLB Ryan Kerrigan (6 tackles and 2 sacks), DE Stephen Bowen (fumble recovery) and CB Kevin Barnes (4 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and a interception that he returned 30 yards) also made big plays for the Redskins on D in this game.  The Dolphins finished up with 103 yards rushing on 33 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 29 passes (69%) for 200 yards.  The Redskins are now 3-6 on the year.
