The Washington Redskins sign punter Sav Rocca

The Redskins have signed 37-year old punter Sav Rocca.  Rocca played in 16 games for the Eagles last year and he punted the ball 73 times for 3,195 yards (42.9 avg).  He only had 2 touchbacks (2.7%) last year and he pinned the opposition inside the their own 20-yard line 28 times (38.4%).  Rocca has now played in 64 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has punted the ball 299 times for 12,817 yards (42.9 avg).  He has also had 17 touchbacks (5.7%) and he has played the opposing team inside their 20-yard line 102 times (34.1%).  This is a good move for the Redskins as Rocca will help them and it will hurt the Eagles because he is good at his job.

The Washington Redskins sign G/C Chris Chester

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 8:34 pm

The Redskins have signed 28-year old G/C Chris Chester to a 5-year, $20 million dollar deal.  Chester played in 14 games (all starts) for the Ravens last year.  He has now played in 74 games (47 starts) in his five years in the NFL.  Chester will start at RG for the Redskins according to multiple reports and he could be a solid lineman in the new zone blocking scheme.  I really like this move for the Redskins who needed to improve the offensive line.

The Washington Redskins release punter Sam Paulescu

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 8:31 pm

The Redskins have released 27-year old punter Sam Paulescu.  Paulescu played in 3 games for the Redskins last year and he punted the ball 17 times for 700 yards (41.2 avg).  He also had 1 touchback (5.9%) and he pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 2 times (11.8%).  Paulescu played in 4 games in his two years with the Redskins and he punted the ball 20 times for 850 yards (42.5 avg).  He also had 1 touchback (5%) and pinned 2 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line (10%).  This is no loss for the Redskins.

The Washington Redskins sign DE Stephen Bowen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:59 pm

The Redskins have signed 27-year old DE Stephen Bowen to a 5-year, $27.5 million dollar contract.  Bowen played in all 16 games for the Cowboys last year and he had 22 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  Bowen has now played in 63 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 72 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 7 tackles for a loss, 3 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  The Redskins will either look like fools or geniuses on this deal because they spent a lot of jack on a player who has never been a full-time starter.

The Washington Redskins release center Casey Rabach

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Redskins Headlines by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:55 pm

The Washington Redskins have released 33-year old center Casey Rabach.  Rabach played in 16 games (all starts) for the Redskins last year.  He played in 95 games (all starts) in his six years with the Redskins.  Rabach didn’t adjust well to the new blocking scheme in Washington, so the coaches decided to go in a different direction at center.

The Washington Redskins release three offensive players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:53 pm

The Redskins have released 30-year old WR Roydell Williams, 25-year old RB Chad Simpson and 24-year old RB Andre Brown.  Roydell Williams was the most productive player of this motley crew last year.  Williams played in all 16 games (0 starts) for the Redskins last year and he caught 8 passes for 109 yards (13.6 avg).  Chad Simpson didn’t get any carries in his three games for the Redskins last year.  He returned 2 kickoffs for 59 yards (29.5 avg) last year for the Skins.  Andre Brown didn’t get into any games for the Redskins as a rookie last year.  Brown played in 4 games for 4 different teams last year and he carried the ball 2 times for -1 yard (-0.5 ypc).  All three of these guys were one year and done in Washington but they won’t miss any of them.

The Washington Redskins release a couple of defensive linemen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:48 pm

The Redskins have released 38-year old DE Phillip Daniels and 32-year old DT Ma’ake Kemoeatu.  Daniels played in 14 games for the Redskins last year and he had 21 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 2 sacks.  Daniels played in 82 games in six seasons with the Redskins and he had 182 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 17.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 1 interception and 23 passes defensed.  The Redskins think that Daniels is running out of gas.  Ma’ake Kemoeatu one lasted one season in Washington.  He played in 14 games for the Redskins last year and he had 29 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  This was just the Redskins getting rid of some money of the salary cap to make more moves.

The Washington Redskins deal DT Albert Haynesworth to the Patriots

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Trades by admin on Friday 29 July 2011 at 3:44 pm

The Redskins have traded 30-year old DT Albert Haynesworth to the Patriots for a 5th round pick in 2013.  Haynesworth played in 8 games for the Redskins last year and he had 16 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and 1 pass defensed.  He played in 20 games in his two years in Washington and he had 53 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 6 passes defensed.  The Redskins were smart to deal Haynesworth to avoid the drama between him and head coach Mike Shanahan.

The Washington Redskins sign CB Josh Wilson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by admin on Thursday 28 July 2011 at 7:14 pm

The Redskins have signed 26-year old CB Josh Wilson to a 3-year, $13.5 million dollar deal.  Wilson played in 14 games for the Ravens last year and he had 40 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery, 3 interceptions (one returned for a TD) and he defensed 14 passes.  Wilson has now played in 54 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 170 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 4 fumble recoveries, 36 passes defensed and 9 interceptions (4 returned for TDs).  This was a good move for the Redskins as Wilson is a playmaker.

The Washington Redskins acquire WR Jabar Gaffney from the Broncos

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,Trades by admin on Wednesday 27 July 2011 at 7:54 pm

The Washington Redskins have acquired 30-year old WR Jabar Gaffney from the Broncos in exchange for 23-year old DE Jeremy Jarmon.  Gaffney played in 16 games (11 starts) for the Broncos last year and he caught 65 passes for 875 yards (13.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He has now played in 139 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has caught 375 passes for 4,675 yards (12.5 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  He also has carried the ball 6 times for 56 yards (6.2 ypc) in his career to date.  Gaffney will likely be the Redskins’ #3 WR in 2011 and he should do a good job.

Jeremy Jarmon played in 5 games for the Redskins last year and he had 3 tackles and 1/2 a sack.  Jarmon has played in 16 games in his two years with the Redskins and he had 11 tackles, 1/2 a sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass defensed.  He wasn’t going to get much of a chance to play in Washington, so I really like this deal from the Redskins’ end.
