The Redskins have placed 23-year old WR Malcolm Kelly on the Injured Reserve List with a hamstring injury.  Kelly played in all 16 games for the Redskins last season and he caught 25 passes for 347 yards (13.9 avg).  In two years with the Skins, Kelly has played in 21 games in which he has caught 28 passes for 365 yards (13.0 avg).  Kelly has been a huge disappointment for the Redskins since they drafted him three years ago in the 2nd round.

The Redskins have acquired rookie DE Hall Davis from the Rams for a conditional draft pick.  Davis was picked in the 5th round (#149 overall) last April.  He played in 12 games (all starts) at Louisiana-Lafayette last season and he had 22 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, he had 3 sacks, 1 batted ball and he forced 1 fumble.  He played in 48 games (26 starts) in his four years in college and he finished up with 59 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, he batted down 2 passes and he forced 2 fumbles.  Davis has a huge upside as many draft experts pegged him to be picked in the 2nd or 3rd round so they got great value with this pick.

UPDATE:  (8/31/2010) - The Redskins must not have liked what they saw out of Davis as they cut him.

24-year old undrafted RB Keiland Williams out of LSU has been catching the eyes of the Redskins’ coaching staff with his fine play this pre-season.  Williams has carried the ball 17 times for 68 yards (4.0 ypc) and he has caught 5 passes for 68 yards (13.6 avg) so far this pre-season.  He has also returned 3 kickoffs for 71 yards (23.7 avg) so far in the pre-season.  Head Coach Mike Shanahan prides himself in the fact that he can plug almost anyone (or so it has seemed) in at RB and they excel in his offense due to the zone blocking scheme.  Could Williams be one of the next obscure running backs to excel under Shanahan?  Only time will tell.  But, first things first, Williams needs to win a spot on the roster.

The Redskins just played well enough last night to hold off the Jets in New Jersey.  Rex Grossman got the start due to Donovan McNabb being a little gimpy and he looked so-so in completing 8 of 16 passes for 111 yards.  John Beck looked pretty good when he came into the game as he completed 7 of 11 passes for 76 yards.  Richard Bartel finished up the game and he looked solid too completing 3 of 5 passes for 44 yards with 1 TD pass.  Larry Johnson showed some life last night leading the Redskins with 42 yards rushing on 9 carries (4.7 ypc).  Willie Parker, however, looked pretty awful in carrying the ball 8 times for 16 yards (2.0 ypc).  WRs Santana Moss (2 rec, 42 yards) and Joey Galloway (3 rec, 29 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Skins last night.  The Redskins finished up with 82 yards rushing (2.8 ypc) and 210 yards passing last night.

The defense was not too good against the running game of the Jets last night but they were good against the pass.  Rookie 4th round pick (LB) Perry Riley led the way for the Skins in this game with 7 tackles.  Safety Chris Horton pitched in with 6 tackles for the Skins last night.  The Jets finished up with 161 yards rushing (5.0 ypc) and 127 yards passing last night.  The Redskins improve to 2-1 on the pre-season.

The Redskins have signed 34-year old safety Tyrone Carter.  Carter played in 16 games (12 starts) with the Steelers last year and he had 61 tackles, 1 sack, he defensed 4 passes and he had 2 interceptions (one he returned for a TD).  Carter has now played in 151 games (53 starts) and he has 409 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 27 passes defensed and 9 interceptions (two TD returns).  This is a solid signing so late as Carter has a lot of experience.

The Redskins have released 34-year old linebacker Chris Draft.  Draft played in 2 pre-season games for the Skins this year and he made 3 tackles.  Draft played in 11 games (3 starts) for the Bills last season and he had 45 tackles, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Mike Shanahan must have thought that Draft couldn’t help the Skins in 2010 but he’ll likely hook on with another team before the 2010 regular season starts.

The Redskins have signed 29-year old fullback Carey Davis.  Davis played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Steelers last season and he carried the ball 2 times for 15 yards (7.5 ypc).  Davis has now played in 37 games (10 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 31 times for 118 yards (3.8 ypc).  He has also caught 17 passes for 76 yards (4.5 avg) in his career to date.  Davis is a pretty solid fullback who could also help the Skins’ on special teams so I like this signing for them.

The Redskins got dominated by the Ravens last Saturday Night.  Donovan McNabb did not look good in this game as he completed 11 of 26 passes for 206 yards with 1 INT.  Rex Grossman finished up the game by completing 14 of 21 passes for 195 yards with 1 INT and he lost 2 fumbles.  Clinton Portis led the way on the ground for the Redskins in this game with 14 yards on 2 carries (7.0 ypc).  Keiland Williams pitched in with 6 yards rushing on 2 carries and he also caught 3 passes for 39 yards.  Larry Johnson looked like he was running in quicksand as he rushed for 4 yards on 8 carries (0.5 ypc) in this game.  WRs Anthony Armstrong (4 rec, 82 yards) and Santana Moss (4 rec, 79 yards) both played well in this game for the Skins.  The Redskins finished up with only 25 yards rushing (1.8 ypc) but they did pass for 365 yards.

Saftey LaRon Landry led the way for the Redskins in this game with 8 tackles.  Linebacker Robert Henson was all over the field in this game with 6 tackles,  1 sack, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 QB hit.  London Fletcher pitched in with 5 tackles and 1 fumble recovery in this game.  The Ravens rushed for 143 yards (4.9 ypc) and passed for 253 yards in this game.

The Redskins have placed 33-year old WR/S Mike Furrey on the Injured Reserve List with a severe concussion.  He has had multiple concussions in his career so it could be over.  That is a shame because Furrey is so versatile that he’s a great player to have around.  He has played in 94 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 221 passes for 2,298 yards (10.4 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  Furrey also has 77 tackles, 6 passes defensed, 4 interceptions (143 yards in returns) with a 67-yard return for a TD and he has recovered 2 fumbles.  He could also return kickoffs or punts in a pinch.  He has returned 21 kickoffs for 387 yards (18.4 avg) and 23 punts for 213 yards (9.3 avg) in his NFL career. 

The Redskins dominated this game last night.  Donovan McNabb looked sharp in completing 5 of 8 passes for 58 yards with 1 TD throw.  Rex Grossman even looked better as he completed 11 of 18 passes for 140 yards with 2 TD passes.  John Beck finished up the game at QB and he didn’t look too good completing 2 of 7 passes for 27 yards.  Ryan Torain was the workhorse on the ground for the Skins last night as he carried the ball 17 times for 62 yards (3.6 ypc).  Keiland Williams was also sharp for the Redskins last night as he carried the ball 11 times for 51 yards (4.6 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  Clinton Portis pitched in with 22 yards on 6 carries (3.7 ypc) last night.  WR Devin Thomas looked solid for the Skins last night with 3 grabs for 64 yards (21.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  TE Fred Davis (1 rec, 9 yards) and WR Anthony Armstrong (2 rec, 9 yards) each caught 1 TD pass apiece last night.  The Redskins finished up with 140 yards rushing (3.4 ypc) and 212 passing yards last night.

The defense was solid against the pass but not so good against the run last night.  Safety Lendy Holmes led the way for the Skins’ on D last night with 7 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  CB Justin Tryon also had a solid game with 4 tackles and 2 passes defensed.  The Chiefs finished up with 146 yards rushing (8.1 ypc) and 147 yards passing last night.
