The Washington Redskins don’t have a lot of picks heading into the NFL Draft

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Thursday 22 April 2010 at 9:58 am

The Redskins have filled a ton of holes in free agency but this weekend they will likely be making some trades.  DT Albert Haynesworth and QB Jason Campbell are the trade bait the Redskins have and if they move them they will likely be busier than first thought this weekend.  The Redskins only have 1 of the top 102 picks in the NFL and only 4 overall.  They have holes at OT and FS which they hope fill in this draft.  They will be considering S Eric Berry, OT Trent Williams and OT Russell Okung in the first round tonight.

PROJECTED FIRST ROUND PICK:  OT, Trent Williams, Oklahoma

The Washington Redskins have been the most active team this off season in the NFL

The Washington Redskins have either traded for or signed 16 new players this off season already.  Owner Daniel Snyder is acting just like George Steinbrenner taking advantage of no salary cap in 2010 as he is throwing money all over the place.  They have brought in players to help out in all three phases of the game.  It all starts with the new QB as the Redskins stole Donovan McNabb away from the Eagles in a trade.  They have hurt the Eagles while helping themselves so it was a win-win move for the Skins.  The Redskins also signed Rex Grossman to back up McNabb which opens up a likely trade of Jason Campbell this weekend at the NFL Draft.  The Redskins also signed RBs Larry Johnson, Willie Parker and Ryan Torain to help jump start the running game which wasn’t good at all last season.  TE Sean Ryan was also signed with the idea of helping out the running game as he is a good blocker but not much of a receivers.  The Redskins have signed G/T Artie Hicks and G/C Kory Lichtensteiger to help out on the O-Line which will be converting to the zone blocking scheme.  For the special teams the Redskins have signed kicker Justin Medlock and punter Josh Bidwell.  Bidwell will start from day #1 but Medlock will have to earn a job in training camp.  The Redskins have signed CB Phillip Buchanon to help out in the secondary.  They have also added five defensive tackles this off-season in Maake Kemoeatu, Anthony Bryant, Greg Peterson, Howard Green and they traded for Adam Carriker.  Look for the Redskins to be active in the trade market this weekend at the NFL Draft as they will be dangling DT Albert Haynesworth and QB Jason Campbell.  The Redskins are a much improved team for 2010 already and the rest of the NFC better take notice.

The Washington Redskins acquire DT Adam Carriker

The Redskins have acquired 25-year old DT Adam Carriker and a 5th round pick (from the Eagles) for a 5th round pick in this weekend’s NFL Draft.  Carriker did not play last year because of injury.  He has played in 31 games in his NFL career and he has made 53 tackles, defensed 1 pass and he has 2 sacks.  With the Redskins looking to move DT Albert Haynesworth in a trade this weekend it was worth taking a shot on Carriker who is a former first round pick.  Switching picks in the 5th round was a small price to pay for a chance to see if they can get Carriker back on track.

The Washington Redskins sign Howard Green and Ryan Torain

The Redskins have signed 31-year old DT Howard Green and 23-year old RB Ryan Torain to 1-year deals.  The 6’4″, 320 pound Green played in 12 games for the Jets last season in which he made 23 tackles.  He has now played in 48 games in his NFL career in which he has made 78 tackles, defensed 1 pass, he has 1 sack and he has forced 2 fumbles.  Green will likely be coming off the bench for the Redskins if he makes the team.  Ryan Torain was picked by Mike Shanahan in his last draft with the Broncos.  He played in 2 games in 2008 for the Broncos carrying the ball 15 times for 69 yards (4.6 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Torain has a nice upside if he can just stay healthy which he never seems to.

The Washington Redskins sign Greg Peterson

The Redskins have signed 26-year old DT Greg Peterson.  Peterson played in 2 games for the Jaguars last season and he made 1 tackle.  He has now played in 14 games in his NFL career in which he has made 16 tackles and he has 1.5 sacks.  The Redskins signed Peterson to give them another big body inside as he is 6’5″, 315 pounds.

The Washington Redskins sign DT Anthony Bryant

The Redskins have signed 28-year old DT Anthony Bryant.  The 6’3″, 337 pound Bryant has not played in the NFL since 2006 with the Lions.  He has played in 8 games in his NFL career and he has 11 whole tackles.  If never hurts to give a huge man like Bryant another chance and it didn’t cost the Redskins much.

The Washington Redskins acquire Donovan McNabb from the Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,Trades by admin on Monday 5 April 2010 at 7:30 am

The Redskins have acquired 33-year old QB Donovan McNabb from the Eagles for a 2nd round pick in 2010 (#37 overall) and a conditional 3rd or 4th rounder in 2011 based on his performance in 2010.  McNabb played in 14 games for the Eagles last season and he completed 267 of 443 passes (60.3%) for 3,553 yards with 22 TD passes and 10 INTs (92.9 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 37 times for 140 yards (3.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs last year.  McNabb has played in 148 games (11 years) in the NFL in which he has completed 2,801 of 4,746 passes (59%) for 32,873 yards with 216 TD passes and 100 INTs (86.5 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 573 times for 3,249 yards (5.7 ypc) with 28 TD runs in his career.  This was a outstanding move for the Redskins as McNabb is a winner.

The Washington Redskins sign Willie Parker

The Redskins have signed 29-year old RB Willie Parker to a 1-year deal.  Parker played in 14 games for the Steelers last season and he carried the ball 98 times for 389 yards (4.0 ypc).  He also caught 6 passes for 64 yards (10.7 avg) with 1 TD grab.  In his six years in the NFL, Parker has played in 79 games in which he has carried the ball 1,253 times for 5,378 yards (4.3 ypc) with 24 TD runs.  He has also caught 84 passes for 697 yards (8.3 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Parker will battle Larry Johnson and Clinton Portis for the starting gig at RB this fall for the Redskins.
