The Washington Redskins pick OT Selvish Capers in the 7th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Draft Report by admin on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 12:11 pm

The Redskins picked OT Selvish Capers with the 231st overall pick (7th round) of the NFL Draft.  Capers is a big guy at 6’4″, 304 pounds and the thought is that he could add a few pounds to his frame.  He is a very good athlete as he was a tight end when he got to West Virginia before converting to tackle.  He is more of a finesse blocker at this time but that could change in the pros.  He played in 13 games (all starts) for West Virginia last season and finished up there playing in 41 games (32 starts) in his four years.  This was a major steal for the Redskins as Capers was projected by many experts to be drafted in the second or third round.  He could develop into a starter for the Redskins as early as Week #1 of the 2010 season.

The Washington Redskins pick OG Erik Cook in the 7th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Draft Report by admin on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 12:06 pm

The Redskins picked OG Erik Cook out of New Mexico with the 229th pick (7th round) of the NFL Draft.  Cook is a big guy at 6’6″, 318 pounds but he’s slow (5.6 40).  Cook started all 12 games for New Mexico last season and he played in 48 games (33 starts) in his time there.  Cook will have a hard time making the Redskins roster because he’s not much of a athlete.  Most experts thought Cook wouldn’t get a call until after the draft so he is a man with a lot to prove.

The Washington Redskins pick WR/RS Terrence Austin in the 7th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Draft Report by admin on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 12:02 pm

The Redskins picked WR/KR/PR Terrence Austin out of UCLA with the 219th overall pick (7th round) of the NFL Draft.  Austin caught 37 passes for 455 yards (12.3 avg) with 4 TD grabs last season and he has caught 109 passes for 1,192 yards (10.9 avg) with 5 TD grabs in his career at UCLA.  Because he is only 5’11″, 172 pounds he was most likely drafted to help the Skins out as a return man.  He returned 45 punts for 302 yards (6.7 avg) last season and he also returned 43 kickoffs for 1,036 yards (24.1 avg).  In his four years at UCLA, Austin returned 143 punts for 943 yards (6.6 avg) and he returned 90 kickoffs for 2,145 yards (23.8 avg).  It was worth rolling the dice on Austin in the 7th round.

The Washington Redskins pick TE Dennis Morris in the 6th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Draft Report by admin on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 11:58 am

The Redskins have signed TE Dennis Morris out of Louisiana Tech with the 174th overall pick (6th round) of the NFL Draft.  Morris is a big target at 6’2″, 265 pounds but not many expects thought he would get drafted so he will have a lot to prove if he’s going to make the Redskins’ roster.  Morris caught 38 passes for 623 yards (16.4 avg) with 12 TD grabs last season for Louisiana Tech.  Morris caught 70 passes for 1,144 yards (16.3 avg) with 16 TD grabs in his career at La. Tech.  Morris is a longshot to make the team so he should focus on special teams if he is going to make the roster.

The Washington Redskins pick OLB Perry Riley in the 4th round

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,The Draft Report by admin on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 11:44 am

The Redskins have picked OLB Perry Riley out of LSU with the 103rd overall pick (4th round) of the NFL Draft.  Riley is 6’0″, 237 pounds and he runs a 4.8 40.  Riley is not much of a pass rusher but he brings a lot of pain in the running game.  That could force Riley to move inside in the pros.  Riley played in 13 games (all starts ) for LSU last season and he had 97 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, he broke up 5 passes and he had 1 interception.  He played in 48 games (22 starts) in his four years at LSU and he finished up with 185 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, he had 2 sacks, broke up 8 passes and he had 2 interceptions.  Look for Riley to eventually develop into a starter but his near future will likely be spent on special teams.

The Washington Redskins sign WR Bobby Wade

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Thursday 29 April 2010 at 11:39 am

The Redskins have signed 29-year old WR/PR Bobby Wade.  Wade played in 12 games for the Chiefs last season in which he caught 36 passes for 367 yards (10.2 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 11 yards (3.7 ypc) and he also returned 21 punts for 160 yards (7.6 avg) last year.  Wade has now played in 102 games in his NFL career in which he has caught 244 passes for 2,858 yards (11.7 avg) with 9 TD grabs and he has also carried the ball 22 times for 93 yards (4.2 ypc).  Wade also has returned 78 punts for 660 yards (7.6 avg) in his NFL career.  Wade will have a really good shot to make the Redskins in 2010 as a backup receiver and a special teams player.

The Washington Redskins sign WR Joey Galloway

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Wednesday 28 April 2010 at 9:10 pm

The Redskins have signed 38-year old WR Joey Galloway to a 1-year deal.  Galloway played in 3 games for the Patriots last season and he caught 7 passes for 67 yards (9.6 avg).  He has now played in 188 games in his NFL career and he has caught 689 passes for 10,777 yards (15.6 avg) with 77 TD grabs.  Galloway has also carried the football 63 times for 496 yards (7.9 ypc) with 1 TD run in his career.  Galloway doesn’t appear to have much tread left on his tires but it never hurts to bring a guy like Galloway into training camp just to see if he has anything left or not.

The Washington Redskins sign DT Darrion Scott

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by admin on Wednesday 28 April 2010 at 3:44 pm

The Redskins have signed 28-year old DT Darrion Scott.  Scott did not play in either 2008 or 2009.  He has played in 48 games (28 starts) in his NFL career and he has 128 tackles, 9.5 sacks, he defensed 6 passes and he forced 1 fumble.  The Redskins continue to stockpile DTs for the 2010 season.

The Washington Redskins trade Jason Campbell to the Raiders

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Leaving Town,Redskins Headlines,Trades by admin on Sunday 25 April 2010 at 7:38 pm

The Redskins have traded 28-year old QB Jason Campbell to the Raiders for a 4th round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.  Campbell played in all 16 games for the Redskins last season and he completed 327 of 507 passes (64.5%) for 3,618 yards with 20 TD passes and 15 INTs (86.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 46 times for 236 yards (5.1 ypc) with 1 TD run.  In his time with the Redskins, Campbell played in 52 games in which he completed 1,002 of 1,637 passes (61.2%) for 10,860 yards with 55 TD passes and 38 INTs (82.3 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 153 times for 786 yards (5.1 ypc) with 3 TD carries in his career.  Campbell was definitely expendable as he wouldn’t be happy holding a clipboard watching Donovan McNabb play.  I think they got the best they could for Campbell but it seems like they sold him a tad low.

The Washington Redskins select OT Trent Williams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines,The Draft Report by admin on Thursday 22 April 2010 at 7:08 pm

The Redskins have selected 6’4″, 305 pound OT Trent Williams out of Oklahoma with the fourth pick of the first round of the NFL Draft.  Williams is a very good athlete who rarely gets beat when he’s focused because of his speed.  He will likely step right in and start for the Redskins providing that he can pick up the new zone blocking scheme that they are going to employ.  Williams was picked over Russell Okung because of his athletic ability as he is good at hitting moving targets.  Williams played in 12 games (all starts) at Oklahoma last season and he played in 51 games (39 starts) in his four years there.  I really like this pick for the Redskins.
