The Washington Redskins fire Jim Zorn

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by admin on Monday 4 January 2010 at 8:41 pm

The Redskins have fired head coach Jim Zorn.  Zorn led the Redskins to a 4-12 record this season and a last place finish in the NFC East.  The Redskins were hard to watch on offense as they only averaged 16.6 points per game wasting a solid defense that allowed 21.0 points per game.  The Redskins were also 0-6 in the division which certainly didn’t help things this season.  The Redskins were 12-20 (37.5%) under Zorn who deserved to get fired.

Washington Redskins @ San Diego Chargers preview

Blogged under Bloglockers, If I Were a Betting Man, This Week's Matchup Report, General Redskins Talk by Andrew on Saturday 2 January 2010 at 2:53 pm

The Washington Redskins (4-11) will be rapping up their disappointing season on the road against the San Diego Chargers (12-3).  The Chargers have clinched a first round bye, so their starters probably won’t play a lot.  That means the Redskins have a very strong chance of winning this game.  The longer the Chargers’ starters play, the less likely the Redskins will win.  They may play more than you would think too since the Chargers have two weeks before their first playoff game.  They might want to keep their guys in rhythm and play them more, but they will still be resting up some no matter what.

Jason Campbell and the Redskins offense will likely get a lot of reps against the Chargers back-ups, so Campbell may have a big day.  I would expect more from the Redskins usual averages of 214 yards passing and 96 rushing yards per game, but it all depends on how much rest the Chargers’ starters get.  This is pretty much a meaningless game, but both teams will be playing with pride.  Although the Chargers starters aren’t expected to play a lot, I am still going to give them a small advantage at home.

PREDICTION:  San Diego Chargers 27, Washington Redskins 24

Rookie linebacker Brian Orakpo of the Washington Redskins is going to the Pro Bowl

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Pro Bowl, The Draft Report, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 1 January 2010 at 9:44 am

23-year old outside linebacker Brian Orakpo is one of only three players (Jairus Byrd, Buffalo and Brian Cushing, Houston) to make the Pro Bowl in their rookie year this season.  He has played in 15 games for the Redskins this season and he has made 48 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, forced 1 fumble, defensed 2 passes and he has 11 sacks.  The sky is the limit for Orakpo who made a seamless transition from being a college DE to a pro outside linebacker.

The Washington Redskins sign two players

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 1 January 2010 at 9:40 am

The Redskins have signed 26-year old CB Marcus McCauley and 22-year old rookie RB P.J. Hill.  McCauley played in 10 games last season for the Vikings and he made 6 tackles.  He has now played in 26 games in his NFL career and he has made 70 tackles and defensed 8 passes.  McCauley should be able to help the secondary and special teams against the Chargers.  Hill was a undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin that the Redskins signed off the Eagles’ practice squad.  It was worth taking a look at Hill who was a outstanding college RB.

UPDATE:  (6/10/2010) - The Redskins have released McCauley.

Kareem Moore needs to step up for the Washington Redskins

Blogged under Needs to Step Up, Bloglockers, Front Page, General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 1 January 2010 at 9:37 am

25-year old saftey Kareem Moore will take over for Reed Doughty at strong safety this weekend and they need him to play well.  Moore has played in 15 games for the Redskins this season and he has made 26 tackles, forced 2 fumbles, defensed 2 passes and he has 1 interception this season.  The Redskins hope that Moore is ready for the challenge because he will likely be dealing with Antonio Gates quite a bit in the game on Sunday.
