The Washington Redskins have signed 28-year old guard Derrick Dockery to a 5-year, $26 million dollar contract.  Dockery played in all 16 games for the Bills last season and he started them all.  Dockery played his first four seasons of his career with the Redskins before signing with the Bills prior to the 2007 season.  The 6′6″, 330 pound Dockery has played in 96 games (93 starts) in his NFL career to date.  This was a good signing for the Redskins.

The Washington Redskins re-sign DeAngelo Hall

The Redskins apparently liked what they saw out of 25-year old CB DeAngelo Hall last season so they inked him to a 6-year, $55 million dollar contract with $23 million dollars guaranteed.  Hall played in 7 games for the Redskins last season and he had 25 tackles, defensed 8 passes and intercepted two.  Hall has now played in 72 games in his NFL career and he has made 301 tackles, defensed 69 passes, has 1 sack, forced 3 fumbles and he has 22 interceptions (two of which he returned to TDs).  This was a good signing for the Redskins as Hall is a true lockdown cornerback.

The Washington Redskins release Shawn Springs

The Redskins were trying to trade cornerback Shawn Springs but in the end they had to release him before free agency started.  The 33-year old Springs played in 9 games for the Redskins last season and he made 36 tackles, defensed 7 passes, had 1 sack and 1 interception.  Springs played 5 seasons with the Redskins covering 64 games in which he made 250 tackles, defensed 51 passes, had 7 sacks, intercepted 12 passes and he forced 2 fumbles.  The Redskins might miss Springs as he still has something left in the tank.

The Washington Redskins sign DT Albert Haynesworth

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 27 February 2009 at 6:14 pm

The Redskins have signed 27-year old DT Albert Haynesworth to a 7-year, $100 million dollar contract with $41 million dollars in guarantees.  Haynesworth is one of the best all around defensive linemen in the NFL and he improves the Redskins’ defense immediately.  The 6′6′, 320 pound Haynesworth played in 14 games with the Titans last season and he made 51 tackles, defensed 2 passes, had 8.5 sacks and he forced 3 fumbles.  He played in 90 games in his career with the Titans making 271 tackles, defensing 18 passes, forcing six fumbles and he had 24 sacks.  The Redskins better hope that Haynesworth is motivated and stays healthy or they might regret signing him.  But he has off the charts potential.

The Washington Redskins are banking on more improvement out of Jason Campbell in 2009

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 27 February 2009 at 6:08 pm

27-year old Jason Campbell started to pay the Redskins off last season for their patience in him.  He played in 16 games (all starts) for the Redskins last season and he completed 315 of 506 passes (62.3%) for 3,245 yards with 13 TD passes and 6 interceptions (84.3 QB Rating).  He also carried the football 47 times for 258 yards (5.5 ypc) with 1 TD run.  The Redskins aren’t deep at QB right now so they need Campbell to have another solid season in 2009.  Campbell has now played in 36 games (all starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 675 of 1,130 (59.7%) passes for 7,242 yards with 35 TD passes and 23 interceptions (80.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 107 times for 550 yards (5.1 ypc) with 2 TD runs in his career to date.
