The Washington Redskins didn’t get much help last April

The Redskins need to start taking the NFL Draft more seriously as it’s the cheapest way to build a football team.  1st round pick (safety) LaRon Landry is a stud already.  He started all 16 games as a rookie last season and he made 95 tackles, had 1.5 sacks and defensed 7 passes.  The Redskins didn’t draft again until the 5th round when they selected OLB Dallas Sartz.  Sartz didn’t play a down for the Redskins last season and he is now a Minnesota Viking.  In the 6th round the Redskins selected ILB H.B. Blades.  Blades played in all 16 games (0 starts) for the Redskins last season and he made 20 tackles.  QB Jordan Palmer was the other 6th round pick the Redskins made last season and he was cut in Training Camp.  He now plays with his brother on the Cincinnati Bengals.  TE Tyler Ecker was the last pick the Redskins made (7th round) last season and he spent his rookie year on the Injured Reserve List.

The Washington Redskins sign WR/KR Jerome Mathis

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, General Redskins Talk by admin on Saturday 5 April 2008 at 10:25 pm

The Redskins have signed WR/KR Jerome Mathis.  Mathis played in 3 games for the Texans last season and he only caught 1 pass for 15 yards.  In 17 career games, Mathis has only caught 6 passes for 80 yards (13.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  But the reason the Redskins signed Mathis is that he is a lethal return man.  He returned 11 kickoffs for 320 yards (29.1 avg) with 1 TD return last season.  Mathis has now returned 72 kickoffs in his NFL career for 2,054 yards (28.5 avg) with 3 TD returns.  Mathis has also returned 12 punts for 68 yards (5.7 avg) in his NFL career.
