Jason Campbell is out for at least the rest of the regular season for the Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Redskins Headlines, Injury Reports, General Redskins Talk by admin on Friday 7 December 2007 at 1:49 pm

Jason Campbell will miss the rest of the regular season for the Redskins after dislocating his kneecap in last night’s game with the Bears.  Campbell played decent this season for the Redskins as he completed 250 of 417 passes (60%) for 2,700 yards with 12 TD passes and 11 interceptions (77.6 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball well as he carried it 36 times for 185 yards (5.1 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Todd Collins was super last night for the Redskins and he will take over as the starting QB as the Skins try to make a push for the playoffs.  Collins completed 15 of 20 passes for 224 yards with 2 TDs and 0 interceptions.  Still, Collins hasn’t played in a long time and teams will now have recent gamefilm on him to prepare for.

Washington Redskins 24, Chicago Bears 16

Todd Collins came to the rescue last night as Jason Campbell went down with a dislocated kneecap.  Campbell was playing pretty well before he was injured as he completed 10 of 16 passes for 100 yards.  But it was Todd Collins that led the offense to the promised land.  He completed 15 of 20 passes for 224 yards with 2 TDs and 0 interceptions.  Collins saved the game because the Skins couldn’t run the ball against the Bears last night.  Clinton Portis only rushed for 36 yards on 17 carries (2.1 ypc) and he also caught 6 passes for 86 yards (14.3 avg).  Ladell Betts couldn’t find any running room as he carried the ball 3 times for a loss of 3 yards (-1.0 ypc) but he caught 4 passes for 26 yards (6.5 avg) with a TD grab.  Chris Cooley hurt himself in the first half but he proved to be a warrior and came back in the second half as he finished with 5 catches for 93 yards (18.6 avg).  Antwaan Randle El also had a decent game with 4 catches for 60 yards (15.0 avg).  The Redskins finished with only 31 yards rushing on 24 carries (1.3 ypc) but they completed 25 of 36 passes for 314 yards.

The Redskins defense was led by London Fletcher (12 tackles) and Shawn Springs (4 tackles, 2 interceptions).  The Bears finished up with 60 yards rushing on 24 carries (2.5 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 51 passes for 296 yards.

Washington Redskins vs. Chicago Bears

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Redskins Talk by admin on Thursday 6 December 2007 at 1:06 pm

This is a battle between two disappointing teams with starting QBs that turn the ball over at alarming rates.  The team that loses this game will likely be watching the playoffs on T.V. which makes is a must-win game for both teams.

The Bears won’t change anything on offense as they prefer to run the ball and throw deep.  The problem with that against the Redskins is that they have a really good run defense as they only allow 97.8 yards rushing per game and 3.9 ypc.  Part of the problem for the Bears offense this season is that the offensive line is starting to look their ages and that’s not a good thing.  Bears QBs have been sacked 38 times this season and they must keep Andre Carter (8 sacks) out of their backfield if Rex Grossman is going to have time to throw the ball deep which is his best asset.  Still, look for Grossman to attack the safeties of the Redskins with TE Desmond Clark down the seams.

The Redskins will likely attack the Bears with their running game.  The Bears are allowing 130.8 yards per game rushing and 4.4 yards per carry so far this season.  Clinton Portis (920 yards rushing, 7 TDs) and Ladell Betts (259 yards rushing) should be able to find running room but it’s also possible that Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs could have big games to stump the Skins running game.  More important to the Redskins is that QB Jason Campbell must protect the football.  He has thrown 11 interceptions this season and he’s lost 8 fumbles so look for the Bears to bring the heat on him.  DE Adewale Ogunleye has 9 sacks and he has forced a fumble in four consecutive games so the Redskins must keep him out of their backfield.  The way the Redskins can attack the blitz is by throwing short passes to TE Chris Cooley and WR Santana Moss and hope they can break a big play or two.

PREDICTION:  BEARS 20, REDSKINS 17
