Jacksonville Jaguars 31, Washington Redskins 14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Pre-Season by dawgpounded on Friday 31 August 2007 at 11:20 pm

The Redskins never had a prayer against the Jaguars who unleashed the dogs on them all night long.  Jason Campbell made a brief appearance and he completed all 5 of his pass attempts for 54 yards and a TD.  Mark Brunell followed and he completed 5 of 6 passes for 47 yards and a TD.  Rookie Jordan Palmer came in and finished the game looking pathetic.  He completed only 2 of 8 passes for 10 yards and he threw an interception that was returned 27 yards for a TD by linebacker Roy Manning.  Undrafted rookie RB Marcus Mason had another solid game with 54 yards on 12 carries (4.5 ypc).  Rock Cartwright looked sharp with 3 carries for 31 yards (10.3 ypc).  Recently re-signed RB Dee Brown did not look good as he carried the football 8 times for 13 yards (1.6 ypc).  The Redskins only had possession of the football for 23:47 of this football game and that is awful.  They finished with 88 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.7 ypc) and they completed 12 of 19 passes for 103 yards.

The Redskins defense also didn’t bother to show up against the Jags.  The Jaguars rushed for 101 yards on 31 carries (3.3 ypc) and they completed 24 of 32 passes for 239 yards.

The Washington Redskins lose RB Derrick Blaylock for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Friday 31 August 2007 at 12:57 pm

The Redskins have lost reserve running back Derrick Blaylock for the season with an injury problem.  He carried the football 23 times for 57 yards (2.5 ypc) in the pre-season and he also caught 3 passes for 13 yards (4.3 avg).  He was likely going to make the team so the Redskins decided to re-sign running back Dee Brown.  Brown was released earlier by the Redskins in the pre-season because he didn’t look too good carrying the football 8 times for 13 yards (1.6 ypc) and catching 1 pass for 3 yards.  Brown will likely be the #4 RB for the Redskins when the season begins next week.

Washington Redskins 13, Baltimore Ravens 7

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Pre-Season by dawgpounded on Monday 27 August 2007 at 3:54 pm

The Redskins didn’t look that great despite beating the Ravens in a football game that was called with 11:38 left in the 3rd quarter due to bad weather.  Todd Collins got the start at quarterback with Jason Campbell out with an injury and he completed 8 of 15 passes for 88 yards.  Mark Brunell only threw 2 incomplete passes before the football game was called.  Derrick Blaylock (7 car, 13 yards) and LaDell Betts (4 car, 11 yards) both had issues running on the Ravens defense.  Santana Moss only caught 1 pass but it was for 40 yards.  Antwaan Randle El pitched in with 4 grabs for 36 yards.  The Redskins finished up with 32 yards rushing on 13 carries (2.5 ypc) and they completed 8 of 17 passes for 88 yards.

The Redskins defense had a rough time with the Ravens’ offense despite holding them to only 7 points.  The Ravens rushed for 55 yards on 11 carries (5.0 ypc) and they completed 14 of 21 passes for 98 yards.  Rookie linebacker Dallas Sartz of the Redskins returned an interception 3 yards for a TD off of Kyle Boller.

The Washington Redskins sign fullback Fred Beasley

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by dawgpounded on Friday 24 August 2007 at 11:29 am

Fred Beasley didn’t play last season but the Redskins wanted a legit fullback to back up Mike Sellers so that is why they got Beasley off of his couch.  Beasley has played 8 seasons in the NFL covering 104 games and he has carried the football 183 times for 610 yards (3.3 ypc) with 8 TD runs.  Beasley is also a decent receiver out of the backfield as he has caught 133 passes for 1,017 yards (7.6 avg) with 5 TD grabs.

The Washington Redskins release RB Dee Brown and TE Tyler Ecker

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk by dawgpounded on Friday 24 August 2007 at 11:20 am

The Redskins felt that Brown and Ecker just weren’t good enough to make their team so they let them go.  Brown returned 1 kickoff in the pre-season for 25 yards and Ecker didn’t even catch a pass.  As owner Daniel Snyder tries to be the “George Steinbrenner” of football he keeps treating the NFL Draft with disdain often trading picks for veterans.  Ecker was just the latest failure among Redskins’ draft picks.

The Washington Redskins acquire guard Pete Kendall from the Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by dawgpounded on Thursday 23 August 2007 at 11:30 am

The Redskins were having problems filling their starting left guard spot but that will no longer be an issue.  The Redskins have traded a 4th round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft for Pete Kendall who will move right into their starting lineup.  Kendall also got a $1 million dollar raise to agree to the trade.  He started 14 games for the Jets last season.  Kendall has now played in 158 games (156 starts) in his NFL career and he will add to those totals.  It was a nice move bringing in Kendall to start but the price was steep as the Redskins to continue thumb their noses at the NFL Draft.

The Washington Redskins release LB Lemar Marshall and sign LB Randall Godfrey

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Redskins Headlines by dawgpounded on Thursday 23 August 2007 at 10:12 am

This is an interesting tradeoff as Marshall was more productive than Godfrey was last season with the Chargers.  Marshall played in 15 games (all starts) for the Redskins last season and he made 104 tackles, had 1.5 sacks, defensed three passes and scored a safety.  In his 6-year career with the Redskins Marshall played in 75 games (45 starts) and he made 290 tackles, had 5.5 sacks, defensed 9 passes and intercepted 4 passes one of which he returned for a TD.

Randall Godfrey played in 13 games (all starts) last season with the Chargers and he made 57 tackles, had 4 sacks and defensed 2 passes.  Godfrey has a wealth of NFL experience as he has played in 159 games in his career and he has made 819 tackles, has 17 sacks, defensed 31 passes, forced 17 fumbles and has 6 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).

The Washington Redskins lose WR Mike Espy for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Wednesday 22 August 2007 at 7:19 am

Mike Espy will miss the entire 2007 season after he ruptured his patellar tendon.  This hurts the Redskins as Espy was a young receiver that they liked.  It will be interesting to see if the Redskins give Espy a chance to prove himself next season or if they look in a different direction.

Linebacker Marcus Washington to miss a couple of weeks for the Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Wednesday 22 August 2007 at 7:09 am

Starting linebacker Marcus Washington will miss a couple of weeks with a dislocated elbow.  The Redskins hope he will be ready for the regular season because they are not deep at linebacker.  Washington played in 14 games last season for the Redskins and he made 86 tackles, had 2.5 sacks and defensed 10 passes.

Pittsburgh Steelers 12, Washington Redskins 10

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Redskins Talk,The Pre-Season by dawgpounded on Monday 20 August 2007 at 7:54 pm

The Redskins couldn’t get anything going on offense and that ruined a good defensive effort on Saturday Night.  Jason Campbell completed 6 of 8 passes for 75 yards before leaving the game with a minor injury.  Mark Brunell didn’t look to good as he completed 5 of 12 passes for 56 yards with an interception.  Todd Sollins was really good though as he completed 10 of 13 passes for 74 yards with a TD.  Collins played so well that the Redskins are considering trading Mark Brunell to the Falcons and making him the backup QB.  The Redskins got absolutely nothing going on the ground as Derrick Blaylock (7 car, 16 yards), Marcus Mason (7 car, 14 yards) and LeDell Betts (6 car, 12 yards) all had their problems with the Steelers’ defense.  TE Chris Cooley was the leading receiver for the Redskins with 5 grabs for 60 yards (12.0 avg).  The Redskins finished up with 43 yards on 22 carries (2.0 ypc) and they completed 21 of 33 passes for 183 yards.

The Redskins defense was pretty solid as they allowed the Steelers to rush for 101 yards on 32 carries (3.2 ypc).  The Steelers also completed 18 of 25 passes for 187 yards.
