The Redskins do a horrible job in last April’s draft

Someone in the front office for the Redskins better figure out that football isn’t like baseball.  You don’t trade draft picks for veterans that can’t cut it.  The draft is very important in the NFL in the salary cap era, because it’s the only way to fill in holes on the roster cheaply.  Here’s the breakdown of last April’s draft:

OLB Rocky McIntosh was the first pick of the Redskins (2nd round).  He played in all 16 games and made 28 tackles.  The Redskins drafted him to fill a hole and he didn’t do much of a job so the Skins have to be disappointed.

In the 5th round the Skins selected DT Anthony Mongomery. He played in 5 games and made 9 tackles and had 1/2 a sack.

In the 6th round the Redskins drafted strong safety Reed Doughty.  Doughty pretty much was just a special teams player as he played in 10 games and made 13 tackles.

The Redskins best pick was 6th rounder Kedric Golston (DT).  He played in all 16 games and made 44 tackles, had a 1/2 sack, defensed 3 passes and recovered a fumble.  He looks like a starter for the Redskins next season.

The Redskins didn’t get much out of the 7th round picks they made.  OG Kili Lefotu didn’t play a down and ILB Kevin Simon didn’t make the team.
