Redskins fall in hard fought battle with the Giants 34-28

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 31 December 2006 at 9:29 am

The Redskins fought hard last night, but in the end it was just too much Tiki Barber for the Redskins to stop.  Jason Campbell played a good game as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 220 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 30 yards (10.0 ypc).  Antwaan Randle El threw 1 pass and it was a 48 yard TD completion to Santana Moss.  He also caught 3 passes for 53 yards.  LeDell Betts had a great game as he carried the ball 20 times for 92 yards (4.6 ypc) and caught 6 passes for 52 yards and a TD.  TJ Duckett carried the ball 3 times and lost 4 yards but scored a TD.  Santana Moss had a good game with 6 grabs for 103 yards and a TD.  TE Chris Cooley added 5 catches for 49 yards.  Mike Sellers caught 2 passes for 11 yards and a TD.

LB Lemar Marshall led a defense that played well against the pass but have no chance stopping a determined running attack.  The Redskins allowed the Giants to carry the ball 34 times for 261 yards rushing (7.7 ypc).  The Giants only completed 12 of 26 passes for 94 net yards passing.

The Redskins finish their disappointing season with a 5-11 record.

Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 29 December 2006 at 1:16 am
The Giants have fallen on hard times as they’re only won one of their last 7 games.  It’s amazing, but they still have a chance to make the playoffs.  The Redskins have played alot better as a team after they made the switch to Jason Campbell at QB.

The Giants will likely try to keep the ball on the ground against a Redskins defense that is allowing 129.1 yards rushing per game.  Tiki Barber (1,428 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (398 yards rushing) should both have good games on Saturday.  The Redskins have a very poor secondary so if the Giants establish the running game, look for Eli Manning to use alot of play action passes.  Jeremy Shockey is pretty beat up physically right now, so the Giants may prefer to chuck it deep to Plaxico Burress and Tim Carter or David Tyree.

The Redskins will also prefer to run the football.  LeDell Betts has been outstanding this season as he’s rushed for 1,062 yards (4.7 ypc), and he should have another good game.  The Giants run defense is allowing 113.5 yards per game and 4.0 yards per carry so far this season.  Look for Jason Campbell to throw alot of safe passes to TE Chris Cooley and Betts.  Also, watch for the Skins to throw over the top to Santana Moss if the Giants sneak up on defense to stop the run.

This should be a good football game.  The Giants really need this game, but they’ve played really awful lately.  I’m siding with the Redskins in this game because they’re playing better right now and they’re at home.

Redskins fall in OT 37-31 with the Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 25 December 2006 at 10:55 am

The Redskins hung tough with the Rams but fell in OT.  Jason Campbell was just managing the game yesterday and he did allright as he completed 13 of 26 passes for 160 yards and a TD.  LeDell Betts had another fantastic game with 29 carries for 129 yards (4.4 ypc) and 2 TDs.  He also grabbed 2 passes for 35 yards.  TJ Duckett carried the ball 5 times for 18 yards and a TD (3.6 ypc).  TE Chris Cooley led the way for the receivers with 7 catches for 77 yards and a TD.

DB Vernon Fox led the Redskins with 16 tackles.  Rookie LB Rocky McIntosh started his first NFL game and finished with 10 tackles.  The rest of the Redskins defense didn’t do too much at all.  The Rams ran the ball 39 times for 197 yards (5.1 ypc).  The Rams also completed 25 of 38 passes for 382 net yards passing.

The Redskins fell to 5-10 on the season after this hard-fought loss.

Washington Redskins vs. St. Louis Rams

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 21 December 2006 at 3:41 pm

Both of these teams have been huge disappointments this season.  The Redskins have won two of their last 4 games including a surprising road win in New Orleans last week.  The Rams also won last week 20-0 against the pathetic Raiders.  But, the Rams have only won 2 of their last 9 football games.

The Redskins should be happy to see a team with the same weaknesses as the Saints on the other side of the football field.  The Rams allow a whopping 147.8 yards rushing per game and 5.0 yards per carry so far this season.  LeDell Betts (933 yards rushing, 4.8 ypc) should have a monster game against the Rams and keep their offense on the sideline.  Look for Jason Campbell to take a few deep shots to Santana Moss during this game.

The Rams will want to come out passing against the Redskins.  The Redskins allow 215.4 net yards passing and have allowed 25 TD passes while only intercepting 6 passes so far this season.  The Rams have allowed 48 sacks of Marc Bulger, but if they give him time to throw he should have big-time success.  Torry Holt (80 rec, 1,044 yards, 10 TDs) and Isaac Bruce (61 rec, 884 yards) will be his targets down the field.  Steven Jackson will be a weapon both running the ball (1,236 yards rushing) and catching the ball (82 rec, 680 yards).

This game is a toss-up.  If the Redskins play like they did last week, they will win this game.  The Rams could decide to show some pride in a down year.  The winner will probably be the team that turns the ball over less.

Redskins prevail 16-10 on the road over the Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 December 2006 at 1:00 am

This was a huge, unexpected win for the Redskins.  Jason Campbell had a decent game as he completed 13 of 28 passes for 204 yards and a TD.  LeDell Betts had a great game as he carried the ball 22 times for 119 yards (5.4 ypc)  and caught 3 passes for 43 yards.  Chris Cooley had a decent game with 4 catches for 80 yards.  Santana Moss caught 3 passes for 37 yards and a TD.

Andre Carter led a good effort by the defense with 8 tackles and a sack.  The Skins held the Saints to 71 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.0 ypc).  The Saints completed 21 of 38 passes for 199 net yards passing.

The Redskins improved to 5-9 on the season with this win.

Washington leading the Redskins defense

Marcus Washington has played very well for the Redskins this season.  That’s something that can’t be said about too many of the Redskins’ defenders.  Washington has 82 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 9 passes defensed and 2 forced fumbles.  Maybe some more of the Redskins defenders should put forth the kind of effort that Washington does….then maybe they wouldn’t be so bad.

Washington Redskins vs. New Orleans Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 December 2006 at 10:03 pm

The Washington Redskins have lost their last two games and 4 of their last 5.  The Saints have won 3 games in a row and have outscored their opponents 107-40 in those games.

The Redskins will run the football in an attempt to keep the Saints offense on the sideline.  LeDell Betts (814 yards rushing) has been great since moving into the starting line-up after Clinton Portis went down for the season.  The Saints are allowing 131.8 yards rushing per game and 5.1 yards per carry so far this season!  Look for Jason Campbell to take some deep shots to Santana Moss and short ones to TE Chris Cooley.  The Redskins will have to keep Will Smith (10.5 sacks) out of the backfield in order to give Campbell a fair shot at the Saints weak secondary.

The Saints will likely try to run a balanced offense on Sunday.  Deuce McAllister (901 yards rushing) will do the heavy lifting in the running game, and Reggie Bush (405 yards rushing) will run a few sweeps against a Redskins defense that is allowing 128.3 yards rushing and 4.2 yards per carry so far this season.  Drew Brees will be attacking the Redskins deep to Marques Colston, Devery Henderson and Terrance Copper.  The Redskins have probably the worst secondary in the NFL as they’ve given up 25 TD passes and only have 5 interceptions.  Reggie Bush (79 rec, 687 yards) will probably get the ball alot out of the backfield and put big-time pressure on the Redskins’ linebackers.

The Saints should blow out the Redskins in the SuperDome on Sunday.

Redskins fall 21-19 to Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 December 2006 at 1:20 am

The Redskins moved up and down the field all day long, but they couldn’t put enough points on the board to win the game.  Jason Campbell completed 15 of 27 passes for 182 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 35 yards (8.8 ypc).  Antwaan Randle El completed his only pass attempt for 40 yards and caught 6 passes for 85 yards and a TD.  LeDell Betts was a monster, carrying the ball 33 times for 171 yards (5.2 ypc) and caught 2 passes for 14 yards.  Chris Cooley added 4 catches for 46 yards.

The defense played pretty well for the Skins.  The Skins held the Eagles to 99 yards rushing of 22 carries (4.5 ypc).  The Eagles also completed 15 of 23 passes for 164 net yards passing.

The Redskins fell to 4-9 on the season with this loss.

One day the Redskins will learn how to draft

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by ravenhater on Sunday 10 December 2006 at 10:38 am

The Redskins must learn that the easiest way to get better in the NFL is by drafting well.  The Redskins prefer to trade picks for veterans and make bad draft decisions when picking players.  For instance, this season the Skins traded up to draft LB Rocky McIntosh in the second round.  All he has done is make 10 tackles in 12 games this season.  The Skins drafted him with the idea of just plugging him in the starting line-up, but he’s been overwhelmed so far this season.

Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Saturday 9 December 2006 at 1:30 am

The Eagles looked good on Monday Night football in beating the Panthers 27-24.  The Redskins have lost 3 of their last 4 games and blew a 14-point lead last week against the Falcons.

Look for the Eagles to throw the football frequently as the Redskins allow 221 net yards passing per game and have allowed 23 TD passes against only 5 pick-offs!  Look for Brian Westbrook (907 yards rushing, 586 yards receiving) to be the focal point of the offense.  Jeff Garcia should be able to pick apart the secondary of the Redskins with short stuff to LJ Smith and Westbrook.  As soon as the safeties sneak up, look for Garcia to go over the top to Reggie Brown and Donte’ Stallworth.

The Redskins would be smart to keep the ball on the ground with LeDell Betts against the porous run defense of the Eagles that allows 136.8 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per rush so far this season.  The Eagles love to blitz, so Jason Campbell will probably have to think fast and Chris Cooley could have a huge game because of that.  If Campbell has time, Santana Moss is finally looking healthy and he could get deep.

The thought here is that the Eagles will punish the Redskins, just like the first time they played….a 27-3 beat-down in Philly.
