The real problem on the Redskins

The real problem on the Redskins is not Mark Brunell.  Brunell currently has a 90.4 QB Rating which is #3 in the NFC, behind only Marc Bulger (101.3) and Donovan McNabb (97.3).  Brunell’s rating ranks #9 in the whole NFL out of 32 starting QBs.  The offense is producing 325.9 yards per game and 20.0 points, so the offense is not the problem.

The Skins defense is a collection of underachieving, over-paid stiffs.  The Skins allow 350.1 yards per game and 24.4 points per game which puts alot of pressure on the offense.  Sean Taylor and Adam Archuleta among others need to live up to their reputations and make some plays.  The Redskins only have 10 sacks and 2 interceptions this season and those totals are pathetic.  Opposing QBs have a rating of 101.4 this season.  What that means is that the Redskins make every QB they play look like a Pro-Bowler….and it’s hard to win football games when you do that.

Look, ravenhater, you’ve got a half a point about the Redskins defense. They are playing like a bunch of stiffs, but there’s something you’re forgetting. Ramsey Clark used to tell Sean Taylor what to do, and then he got traded. Give Troy Vincent a chance to tutor Taylor, and there’s new hope in the secondary. Also, the Redskins need a better middle linebacker who can cover the run and the pass and provide leadership in that position a la a Jack Lambert or Mike Singletary . In other words, they need leadership on defense.
But Brunell is still the problem. I don’t care about that b.s. rating system for quarterbacks. Brunell’s case proves the point. Touchdowns win games, and this guy can’t deliver. He plays no-mistake football up to the goalline, or the forty yard-line, and then all we get is a lousy punt or field-goal. Just look at the scores before halftime!! (or after) This guy converts, maybe, one touchdown per first half since the start of the season. That’s pathetic! And he get his good stats by throwing to his tight-end. When’s the last time he completed a fifty yard touchdown pass to Lloyd or Randle-El? How about two in one game? It’s time for him to retire.
Put Collins on injured reserve and get Campbell in there, and he’ll inspire the defense to new heights, I assure you. You’d still be missing the key players on defense I just mentioned, but at least this team would be more enjoyable to watch.
