Kicker John Hall out for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 5:33 pm

John Hall injured his leg on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the football season.  Nick Novak was signed to replace him.

The Redskins also brought in 44 year old punter Sean Landeta in for a workout this week to light a fire under Derrick Frost.

Redskins special teams average so far, but have potential for much more

The Redskins have alot of talent on special teams, but the results have only been average so far.  The Redskins allow an average on 9.0 yards on punt returns and 23.0 yards per kick-off return.

John Hall has connected on 9 of 11 FGs and all 9 XPTs.  Derrick Frost is averaging 44.1 yards per punt for a net gain of 37.9 yards.  Frost has placed 24% of his punts inside the 20 yard line.

Antwaan Randle El is only averaging 7.2 yards per punt return so far…..but he will do better soon. Rock Cartwright has been great at returning kick-offs as he has averaged 26.5 yards per return including one return for a 100 yard TD.

Redskins scalped by Giants 19-3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 9 October 2006 at 3:02 pm

This was an ugly football game for the Redskins.  The Giants beat them in every facet of the football game.  Mark Brunell must have used up all of his magic last week as he completed only 12 of 22 passes for 109 yards.  Clinton Portis carried the ball 19 times for 76 yards (4.0 ypc).  TE Chris Cooley caught 4 passes for 41 yards and Santana Moss caught 3 passes for 39 yards.

The Giants pushed the Skins defense all over the field.  It’s amazing that the Giants only scored 19 points.  The Giants ran the ball 36 times for 155 yards (4.3 ypc).  The Skins allowed the Giants to complete 23 of 33 passes for 256 net yards passing.  Safeties Adam Archuleta (10 tackles) and Sean Taylor (8 tackles) were busy all day.

Redskins vs. Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 5 October 2006 at 8:45 am

The Redskins have exploded since Clinton Portis has returned full-time to the offense, and the Giants are well-rested coming off their bye week.

Look for the Redskins to run the football at the start of the game into the teeth of the Giants defense that only allows 89.3 yards rushing per game and 2.9 yards per carry.  Clinton Portis (237 yards rushing) and Ledell Betts (223 yards rushing) will try to establish themselves so that Mark Brunell (950 yards passing) can run play-action passes, which he is a master at.  WR Santana Moss (17 rec, 326 yards) should be able to find running room in the Giants secondary as long as the line keeps Umenyiora and Strahan out of their backfield.

The Giants like to throw the ball alot, but Tiki Barber (225 yards rushing) and Brandon Jacobs (98 yards rushing) will try to force their will on the Redskins Front 7.  The Redskins also have a rugged run defense, allowing only 79.5 yards rushing per game and 3.2 yards per carry.  The Giants have been very good at protecting Eli Manning (893 yards passing) as he has only been sacked 2 times this season.  Manning needs to be smart with the ball, because he should have success throwing the ball against the Skins who allow 231.5 yards passing per game.  Manning likes to spread the ball around to his Top 4, Toomer (20 rec, 207 yards), Tiki Barber (16 rec, 132 yards), Plaxico Burress (11 rec, 217 yards) and Jeremy Shockey (11 rec, 134 yards).

This should be a great football game that both teams need.  The team that wants it more will win this game.

Mark Brunell starting to dazzle at QB

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 3 October 2006 at 8:38 pm

Mark Brunell had a rough start to this season, prompting many on this site to clamor for Jason Campbell to start playing!  Where are they now?  Instead of celebrating how well Mark Brunell is playing, they are hiding….afraid to admit they were wrong.  Brunell has completed 77 of 118 passes (65.3%) for 950 yards with 4 TDs and 2 INT.  Brunell’s play started to improve when Clinton Portis came back……and it should continue as the Redskins are firing on all cylinders now.

Redskins prevail in 36-30 OT thriller

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 2 October 2006 at 1:33 pm

All of the Mark Brunell haters will have to shut up for a little while after the last two games Mark Brunell has put up.  Brunell completed 18 of 30 passes for 329 yards with 3 TDs and an interception.  RB Clinton Portis ran the ball 27 times for 112 yards (4.1 ypc) and a TD, he also caught 2 passes for 28 yards.  Ledell Betts chipped in 11 carries for 37 yards (3.4 ypc).  WR Santana Moss caught four passes for 138 yards (34.5 avg) and 3 TDs including the 68 yard game-winner in OT.  TE Chris Cooley caught 4 passes for 70 yards.

The Redskins did a fine job shutting down the Jaguars running game.  The Jags carried the ball 15 times for 33 yards (2.2 ypc).  The Skins allowed the Jags to complete 21 of 35 passes for 274 net yards passing.

This was a great win for the Redskins!
