Redskins acquire T.J. Duckett in a three team trade
The Redskins didn’t feel confident in the back-up running backs currently on their roster so they went out and got a good one. T.J. Duckett is a monsterous battering ram type of running back, a bulldozer with legs. He is the perfect compliment to Clinton Portis, and he can handle the load if Portis isn’t ready to start the season. Duckett has played in 55 games (13 starts) and has rushed for 2,175 yards (3.9 ypc) and 21 TDs. He also has caught 29 passes for 233 yards.
The Redskins had to trade 3rd and 4th round picks to Denver which could escalate based on a complicated formula. The Broncos traded WR Ashley Lelie to the Falcons as part of this deal.

According to the Denver Post, the details of the trade look like this:
“The scenarios are: The two teams exchange first-round picks, in which the Broncos would make a huge jump up the round; the teams flip-flop their first-rounders and the Broncos get a fourth-rounder in 2008; the teams flip-flop their first-rounders and the Broncos get a third- rounder next year; or the Broncos get a third-rounder in 2007 and a fourth-rounder in 2008.”
This trade could mean that special teams ace Rock Cartright will be cut OR the Redskins are shopping Ladell Betts.

I’ve read that the Skins have alot of interest in Betts. It would make sense for them to move Betts and get a pick or two for him. One thing the Redskins might have to learn the hard way is that the NFL Draft is a good place to make your team better.
See, that’s the real interesting thing. Saunders has been effusive in his praise of Betts, perhaps trying to inflate his trade value. Betts has been interviewed locally in DC and he is not happy at all about this trade. I would not be surprised to see Betts moved for a draft pick or perhaps for some OL depth.
