We Need to “Coach ‘em Up”

Not since the Steve Spurrier era have we seen such ugly football played in the Nation’s Capital.  The difference is those games were regular season games and this was only a preseason game.  But I’m sorry, no silver linings after this debacle.

Against the Jets Saturday night, the first string defense looked good; for about three plays. Then the entire team took the night off.  Terrible offense, terrible defense (the Jets had a 22 play drive that consumed almost 12 minutes in the third quarter), and an even worse special teams.  It was apparent after the game that Coach Gibbs was as displeased as a God-fearing man can be.

It’s clear the revamped offense has not sunk in and the backups don’t seem to have a clue on defense.  But the special teams may need the most coaching of the bunch.  I know, everything is “vanilla” right now, but like Mark Brunell said, all that means is the plays should be easy to execute.

If we want to get this turned around, it’s obvious that the Redskins will need to take a few lessons from the Ol’ Ball Coach and do a little more “coaching up.”

Hail,
